Ok this is driving me crazy. I have had this GA-P35C-DS3R for a few weeks( from the bay) And for the life of me it will not OC my E8400, I previously had an E2180 and it would also not OC that but if I used my previous board (GA-P35-DS3R) then the E2180 would OC to 3ghz no problems. Now I have tried numerous diffrent settings in the bios but none have worked. If I make changes in the bios and my system reboots the seetings dont hold but they are still there in the bios??

Heres my specs

GA-P35C-DS3R Rev 2.0 Bios F12
E8400 C0
Corsair 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory Kit Non-ECC Unbuffered CL5 1.9v

Cheers

I had the same problem with a P35 Gigabyte and an E2180. BIOS would show the overclock and after reboot it was gone. Sometimes it would hold the overclock and let me use it but after a restart or reboot it was gone. We're talking even a 1mhz increase in bus speed.

I also had a 965 based Gigabyte with an E4300 that was 1.8ghz stock and I ran at 3.4 ghz. EVERY time I would reboot or shutdown the overclock would be gone. I would have to go into BIOS and reset it. Sometimes after saving in BIOS the computer would "try" to start up and just shut down. The only way I could get it to work, get this, was to unplug the power cord, press the power button on my tower a few times, plug it back in and it would fire. If I just unplugged the power cable and let it sit for a minute, no dice. At first I thought it was the power supply so I bought a $120 Enermax and it did the same thing. The fun part was half the time, after the unplug and pressing the power button, that the overclock would be gone. I would have to go back into BIOS and reset it, then flip a coin to see if it was going to stick after the unplugging BS.

I really pressed my luck with my P45 Gigabyte but that one worked perfectly fine. Had an E3110 (Xeon E8400) overclocked to 4.0 ghz. that worked every time. My latest computer has a Gigabyte 785G with an Athlon II 630 overclocked to 3.5 ghz. with no troubles. It was just those first two motherboards.

The board wouldnt OC my E2180 either the only thing that I havnt changed is the ram. Could it be my ram timings?

Then again my GA-P35-DS3R would OC the E2180 using the same ram. Im goin to set up the P35 with the E8400 when I finish work to see if it OC's to 4ghz. But I think I will be e-baying the board and gettting something else.

Well I just put the E8400 in my old GA-P35-DS3R and set the CPU to run at 4ghz and it booted into windows no problems. So it definately is the GA-P35C thats acting the silly buggers. Time to put it on the bay me thinks.

This problem sometimes happens to Gigabyte P35 mobos. No-one really seems to know the cause. You set the overclock settings in the BIOS, and save, and boot into Windows, and they aren't active. You reboot into the BIOS, and your settings are still there.

Thankfully, it hasn't happened to me. (Knock on wood.)

Btw, did you try clearing CMOS first.

Try setting your multiplier down one notch, with FSB at stock. Does it show that change in Windows/cpuz? I am wondering if it is your OC that is causing a problem, or if it is just a serious "flaw" in the bios. So next step is to try a very mild fsb overclock, while keeping the lowered multiplier. Try to make it so your overall clock speed is the same as stock (ie increased fsb to compensate for reduced multiplier). And see if those changes are properly reported by cpuz.

If you are able to succeed with the above then here are the next things to try:

Disable speedstep.
Disable C1E.
Disable thermal warnings.
Reduce the RAM ratio. (I think 2.0 is the lowest you can go).
Increase all voltages (cpu, ram, northbridge, etc)

Reduce the RAM ratio. (I think 2.0 is the lowest you can go).
Increase all voltages (cpu, ram, northbridge, etc)
If you are leaving RAM ratio at auto, it will run at a ~20% OC, taking a E8400 from 333 to 400. On a E21xx, you could be trying to run your RAM at a 100% OC at 400MHz FSB.

So, the RAM fails to initialize, and the board posts with stock settings (this is not something weird, it's a feature, so that you don't have to remember all the non-stock settings). If you haven't been manually setting the RAM to use the lowest ratio, that is the very first thing you should do.

If the RAM is set to 2:1, then you likely got a bad board, because you should be able to get 10% or more of an OC at stock voltage, with no other changes than RAM:FSB ratio, and FSB.

Im not shure if this is a motherboard bug ,,, hmmmmmmm. Good one Cerb , nice post.

Remember as you take up FSB , the RAM frequency goes up along with it.

So you will have to go 8 x 400 for 3.6Ghz , if vdrop is 1.44v but dont take my word for it,, Guys what voltage should he run for 3.6Ghz ??? Also he has a vdrop , there should be option in BIOS to eliminate vdrop. load line calibration turn off ,,,, if it still drops then there might be a Pencil voltmod but you have to know which transister to color in. Every board is diff, I was lucky enough to find a pic of my board exactly where you HB2 it in, and now I get 0.0 vdrop when I used to get 1.2vdrop

Put ram voltage to what it states on RAM, do not OC ram ,, Right now were doing your comp then we can do your video card and your RAM.. gl tc, and gb

Aye, my bet is battery as well. Would like to know if that is your fix. Have two of these boards, new in box that were disposed of at work, going to build one of them up. I need to make a note to replace battery from get go. Hoping it will make a decent media server/hackintosh. My HDHomeRun 3 channel network tuner arrives today. Have a 2.4 c2duo on hand, if it all works, going to look at the x3380 as a possible upgrade for it.

You just dredged up an old thread for what? He never did respond to my post about running with a lower multi and higher fsb...

Using 3D Mark Vantage V110, is it fair to say that my stock E8400 is holding me back?
I have a 6850.

Either way, Crysis WH runs well at....

1600x1200...4aa+16af, all enthusiast, so I guess a SB+6970 would definately max 1080p.
FEAR from 2005 is maxed and I'm getting 56fps minimum, and what an incredible game that still is, they don't make em like they used to that's for damn sure.
