Help me pick a good non-DDR Athlon motherboard with sound!

Hi, my IWILL KK266 is giving me some trouble, so I'm looking to replace it. I have 512mb of non-DDR ram that I'm not looking to replace, so I need a motherboard that will accept it. Also I don't have a sound card since my KK266 has onboard sound, so I need onboard sound in my new mb. Can anyone give me some insight into what motherboards fit that bill? Thanks in advance!

Hmm, the ECS K7S5A has SDram support, and you can upgrade to DDR when (if) prices come down later. It takes both kinds of ram, has the SiS 735 chipset, and it has AC97 audio. Perhaps, the K7S6A will come out soon; it may also have SDram support.

I like my Epox 8KTA3 board. It's fast and very tweakable. The 8KTA3 Pro is out, that adds the ability to adjust the FSB by 1MHz increments, and it features AC97 sound onboard.

Thanks for your replies, guys. Jeff7, that Epox board looks like it might be the one for me. I like to do a little overclocking, the 1ghz Athlon I have will actually run at 1.4 if I turn the fan up high enough . If anyone else has any opinions, please lemme know. Thanks again.

Well I was gonna reccomend an Iwill kk266 but since yours is giving you trouble.. which is weird.. but anyway yeah If you dont feel like getting a kk266+ which is what I will still recomend then id say go with an epox.

where my Abit-kt133a wouldnt go over 938 on my duron 600 this kk266 does 1038! And it does all this running cooler then the abit.
Also OC's my 1.33@.1.6ghz And its very very stable hehe..


But enough about the IWill since your not getting it go for the epox very good board my 2nd choice

Well, I just got an enermax whisper power supply, and it's not working with my IWill mb. Also, I'm having some wierd issues with my ide controllers on it, so I'm giving up. If $80 will solve my problem I'm ok with that.

And what will you do with your Iwill after the upgrade? I'm looking for one for some testing for a new cooler. If you're going to throw it to the garbage, I have one here that can hold it!

Actually I seem to have resolved my IDE controller issues...it looks like I just had 2 disks with lots of bad sectors (60gb IBM and 40gb IBM drives.) I used IBM's utilities to check them out and now everything is running smoothly. My enermax power supply still doesn't work with my motherboard, but it is possible that I have a bad power supply. I'm going to send it back and see if that fixes it. Bottom line is, I'm not quite ready to get rid of it, but I'll keep ya in mind in case I give it up.

I was also going to recommend the KK266. I had the RAID version and it was one of the best boards I have ever owned. I was able to get 1554 rock solid out of my 1333 AYHJA with my Iwill. The onboard 4.1 sound was the best integrated sound I've ever experienced.
