So I just got an offer for an operations engineering intership this summer with Amazon, and I get to rank my preferences for location out of the below list. Many of the locations are in the midwest (where I have lived all of my life), so I would like to avoid those.

FULFILLMENT CENTER TYPES -
Big Sortable – Our Big Sortable fulfillment centers generally house items that can all fit in one box/shipment for example, books, DVDs, watches, etc.
• LEX1 – Lexington, KY
• IND1- Whitestown, IN
• PHX3 – Phoenix, AZ
• PHX6 – Phoenix, AZ
• RNO1 – Fernley, NV
• SDF1 – Campbellsville, KY
• TUL1 – Coffeyville, KS
• ABE2 – Breinigsville, PA
• PHL1 – New Castle, DE
• CHA1 – Chattanooga, TN

Small Sortable – Our Small Sortable fulfillment centers is generally smaller in size and houses items that can all fit in one box/shipment
• BOS1 – Nashua, NH
• BWI1 – Sterling, VA
• LAS2 – Las Vegas, NV
• SEA8 – Bellevue, WA

Non-sortable- Our Non-Sortable fulfillment centers generally house items (usually because of size) that can't be sorted into a box with other items.
• DFW1 – Dallas, TX
• IND2 – Plainfield, IN
• PHL4 – Carlisle, PA
• PHL5 – Lewisberry, PA
• PHX5 – Goodyear, AZ
• PHL6 – Carlisle, PA

Replenishment Centers - The RC’s receive product from the vendors and moves the product to and between fulfillment nodes.
• AVP1 – Hazelton, PA
• CVG3 – Hebron, KY

Customer Returns Center - Processes all Amazon.com customer returns
• LEX2 – Lexington, KY

Specialty Sites – Fulfill specialty items sold on Amazon.com such as jewelry and clothing.
• SDF2 – Campbellsville, KY
• CVG1 – Hebron, KY
• CVG2 - Hebron, KY

So far I am thinking:
1. Bellevue, WA - Seattle would be awesome, so this is definitely my #1 choice.
2. Sterling, VA - I think the DC metro area would be a lot of fun.
3. Nashua, NH - 50 minutes northwest of Boston, it looks like a pretty cool place.
4. New Castle, DE - Would rather try some place new on the east coast than in the midwest.

Any comments on the other places? Phoenix or Dallas might be cool, but probably too hot for me in the summer.

EDIT: It's JUST for the summer, so I'm not really taking the long-term into consideration at this point.

Dallas or Vegas would be my choices. You adjust to heat pretty quickly, and it is nice having mild winters. Vegas would be a great place to get tons of tail

The lack of sun up in the Seattle area would bother me.

Go to Bellevue. I was up there last summer for an internship at Microsoft. Seattle is AMAZING in the summer.

The summer might start out a bit cold and drizzly, but it will warm up and become sunny. Seattle has perfect summers. Not to mention, Seattle is just freaking awesome. I couldn't handle the rest of the 9 months though.

I actually got an offer for the Amazon AWS team, but I turned it down because I don't think I could live in Seattle the rest of the year.

Try not to bring down half of the EBS servers on the east coast Congrats on getting an internship there, I've heard it's a great place to work. And nice veiled brag thread.

If you can afford it, Northern Virginia is a darn nice place to live.
If you cant afford it, Northern Virginia is a shithole.

I would say no to bellevue. Traffic is awful, rains all the time, full of heathens...

If you want to make a career out of it, maybe going to KY would be best considering the amount of dist. centers there. You could be sent to other places and make good contacts there.

Chattanooga, TN would be cool for a bit. Close to the mountains, soul food.

Fernley NV!

I'd live in Reno - get a short term rental at the Montage in downtown Reno and commute.

Fun city - especially in the summer. Your an hr from Tahoe and the the Reno area has awesome recreation activities. Yes its hot, but nearly as hot as Vegas or Phoenix.

Pick their Kentucky plants. I know it's the middle of nowhere, but that's where they ship out literally EVERYTHING.

the NV place has been shipping out a lot of my recent orders too, but I think KY wins hands down.

Chattanooga is an awesome town if you like the outdoors. Plus it's only 1-1.5h from Nashville and Atlanta.

Eff the rain in Washington and the dust/sand/heat in Nevada.

That is a decent idea...would be cheap too. If you've always lived in the Midwest I don't think Wash DC would be a giant change in scenery.

I'd rate more like Bellevue, Nashua, Fernley, Sterling. No reason to put DE on your list. Fernley will be hot but the mountains are right there for weekend activities if you like outdoor stuff. Otherwise put Sterling higher if you're a city boy.

I am in Nashua and it's a tiny little town, came here from Chicago suburbs and it's a huge difference in scenery. Boston is drivable distance, but I didn't find it very accessible.

Whichever state doesn't have any plans to force them to collect sales tax?

Fucking this. Full of heathens is OK, but if you have a schedule that is 9-5 or 8-4 or WHATEVER: FUCK IT!

If it ain't raining then it's just gloom and doom.
