Help me pick best ASUS mobo for a T-Bird.

Hey all,

I just have a little dilema picking a good ASUS mobo that would support DDR memory. I may get a T-Bird 266 @ 1Ghz, but i have a hard time picking a suitable mobo for it. I was thinking of the A7V133A but does that board support DDR mem? Actually I also want a mobo that hase good upgradebility... for example i would maybe like to put an AMD XP into it in the future... if thats possible. I basically need an ASUS (must) mobo that can support DURONS, T-Birds, and future generations of AMD processors like the MP, XP line (if possible) without getting a new board.

Any suggestions?

The A7V133 and A7V133-C do not support DDR... but they're probably one of the best KT133A boards out there...you can find them around $100-110. As far as DDR boards are concerned... the A7V266-E just came out and you better have lots of $$$... it will probably run close to $200... which sucks.

ok ............. anything cheaper then that and that still supports DDR? Well that's lots of dough. maybe i should go to my second favorite manufacturer, MSI.

K7T 266Pro,
K7T 266-RAID,
K7T 266Pro2,
K7T 266Pro2-RU, or
K7T Turbo

support DDR, and the features that I am looking for? Those boards look very similar to me and I cant differenciate between them. Which whould be the best pick (in your opinion) from that list and why? BTW whats RAID, i have heard about it somewhere but cant remember what it is.

Nm...i did some more reading on the MSI website and made up my mind. The K72 266 Pro2 is the one im ognna go with - probably.

What you are looking for is which chipset the mobo is equiped with - and right now it should be the KT266a (not KT266) - look here for an overview. I'll be getting the A7V266-E, but my advice is surf the mobo threads right here, and generally wait until the board has been out and tested by the users before you buy - regardless of which mobo you end up buying.
