HELP ME PLEEEEASE!

I just installed Windows 2k Professional. Everytime i boot up my computer i get a screen saying "Warning Unsafe Removal Of Device: MATSHITA DVD-ROM SR-8586 SCSI CdRom Device" Now after this i press OK, and the comptuer no longer recognizes I have a CD-ROM drive. Could it be a bad IDE Ribbon cable? I can't update the drivers because there the drive is no longer in Device Manager. Also it says "SCSI" drive when its an IDE device. Someone please help me! I can't use any CD's anymore!!!

Check the jumpers on the CD first. Next check to see if the cable is making good contact with the CDRom and the mobo. If you are just upgrading software then none of this should matter. Try removing any extra devices in the device manager then reboot. I had a similar problem with my scanner. I pulled out all non-critical cards (ethernet, modem, scsi, etc.), rebooted, Windows fount the scanner, then reinstalled all other removed devices again. Hope something works.

Ok, just a guess here based on other posts but are you running a Via chipset? If so you will want to upgrade your 4 in 1 driver based on your CD problem.
