Thru my various wheelings and dealings I have a debit card with $77 dollars on it. I could add to it but that would cost me an extra dollar. Yes, I am that cheap.

So now I offer you the chance to live vicariously thru me and spend a grand total of $77 online, including S&H.

Current Sytem specs:

Abit KT7-RAID
Duron 600/W retail heatsink/fan
640mb Crucial SDRAM
30GB IBM 75GXP
60GB Maxtor
Geforce2 MX(generic)
SBLive! value
Creative FPS1600 Speakers
Yamaha 8x8x24 CDRW
Toshiba 12x DVD
Hauppauge WinTV-D

Now I'm mostly into Video capture and Divx, so I think raw number crunching is the way to go. My duron can OC to 900@1.7v stable but it still runs a little hot with the retail HSF. So on hot summer days i have to bring it down to 700@1.6v.

Back to the $77. It's not quite enough to get a 1Ghz Tbird OEM but should get there in a couple of weeks. But even if i got one I'm not sure my retail HSF could hack it.

Another option is to splurge on a ridiculous HSF, like the Swiftech MC462. Push this duron to the limit and pickup a Tbird in a few months.

All opinions are welcome. And thanks for any responses.

PS My body is having a no-holds-barred death match with the flu right now so please excuse my typos, mistakes and general rambling. (I have $50 on the flu so it's a win-win situation )

Donate it to the March of Dimes!
It's tax deductable.
Or you could just let it burn right through your pocket and fall on the floor.
LoL sorry couldn't resist.
Add some money to it and upgrade the video Card, just my 2 cents. There now you have $77.02

You could get a 1Ghz Tbird for that price. It would probably be an AXIA too

How about getting a Thermalright SK6 (almost as good as the swiftech) for about $40 and overclocking the Duron. Then use the rest of the money towards a T-bird later. That's my 2 cents. Now you have 77.04 in total

For $73 at Newegg you can get a 1gig tbird but then there is shipping and tax if your in Cali plus it's oem. Sooooo I would agree with Swanny, buy a nice HSF now and OC the Duron, then when you have a few more $$'s get a t-bird. Now you have $77.06. Keep it up!

Upgrade the HSF, Save $$ for a T-bird later. The bird should be cheaper within a month or so from now. Well, it u r happy after u O/Ced the Duron w/ better HSF, the $$ can be spend on the VGA card. Now ur debit card is at $ 77.08 !!

Thanks for the responses.

I'm happy with my current video card, since I'm not a big gamer. I think a cheaper HSF may be the way to go while I wait for cpu prices to come down.

Can someone answer these questions:

1. Why is the 266fsb 1GHZ Tbird $4 cheaper than the 200fsb version at compubuzz? I've noticed the 266 1GHZ are generally a couple of bucks cheaper than 200fsb.Is there any reason I can't run the 266 in my kt7 (at 100fsb of course)?

2. Why does it only cost $8 to ship the 1.5+ pound swifttech at compubuzz, but $12.75 to ship a ~1 ounce OEM CPU? Oh wait, I think its called pricewatch. (if the CPU shipped for 8 bucks the 266fsb 1GHZ would cost $77 exactly shipped)
