A lot of you guys have the GTX 980Ti or the Fury X but what the reason for constantly needing good gpu? Graphic hasn't even improve my much since 2010.

I have an Ati Radeon HD 5850 and when I go back and run games like Dirt 2, the graphics are so pretty and look a lot better than some of these new games, but yet I can't run new games (less pretty) but can run some old games (that look absolutely stunning)? Did the gpu market bridge games industry to release poorly optimize games?

It doesn't make sense to me. Dirt 2 look stunning and no matter what era we are in, it will always look stunning. Witcher 3 look better, sure, but not that much better.

I just don't understand why poor optimization forces pc user to upgrade gpu? Day Z [runs poorly] no matter what hardware you have. In fact the developer of Day Z should be fire and shut down. If you can't optimize your game, you deserve to get your stupid studio shut down.

Peace.

It depends also on the resolution you run at. Obviously the more pixels, or monitors, you have, the more GPU power you need. If you are still running at 1680x1050, that's fine, you don't need much GPU power to reach 60 FPS at your res. At 1440p and higher, especially if you are running a 120-144 Hz monitor, you need a lot more GPU power to reach the desired FPS at that resolution.

Why are you hating on dayz, your 5850 should run that fine if you have enough cpu power.

And dirt2 looks decent and consistent, but the model detail is pretty poor.

People have been talking as if graphics are good enough for at least 10 years, yet graphics continues to progress and improve. The latest features are often not taken seriously by current gamers, but in a few years, those same people can't live without those features.

As far as DayZ, isn't that a complete CPU bottleneck?

Exactly, my 3440x1440 is a lot to push compared to 1080, there are games where it's probably costing me two full steps in settings compared to friends with the same card. I don't even want to know what it'd be like with a 4K or if I got my full 2560+3440+2560x1440 array going. I do know that my 290 would definitely seem pretty anemic. At the end of the day, what you get out is limited by the money you put in, and some folks are more willing to get spendy than others.

Buy more monitors, and hook them up so you have triple-screen widescreen gaming. Then you will wonder why anyone still uses a 5850 because it is sooooo sloooooow with that usage scenario.

But then again, you could also load up Oregon trail or some text-based game on your computer and complain how your 5850 is soooo overpowerrrred.

It's all about what you are trying to use your computer for.

Whatever happen to your planned PC build? I thought you wanted eyefinity and the works? I guess that was all talk and no substance. You're right. Nothing will ever look better than Dirt 2, EVER! :whiste:

You're not completely wrong. The 5850 was actually faster than the consumer dGPU that's closest to what's found in the Xbone, the Radeon 7770 (at least at launch before GCN got its legs):

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Powercolor/HD_7770/26.html

There's a reason they sell consoles at $350-$500 every 7 years or so. This may be a more appropriate gaming model for you.

PC gaming is for pushing beyond the minimum standards though.
