My friend got a mobo\CPU combo from Frys and im sitting here setting it up and the mobo is only reading his AMD Athlon XP 2600 as a 2000+ and its really getting annoying . I cant seem to find a bios update of any kind on the ECS site. If i change the bus speed off of 133 the PC will turn on but nothing on the screen wich makes us have to reset his bios. Anyone know how to help me fix this?

ECS Eleetgroup L7S7A2
AMD Athlon XP 2600+
512 MB Kingston HyperX

Thanks.

What BIOS does it have on it now? What is the date?

Here is a link to the latest BIOS. Make sure that you download the Flash Utility and use that version only!

L7S7A2 BIOS

Hope this helps you out....

Also, could be the memory you are running that is preventing you from pushing the bus speed up.

Hi,

I'm also having proglems with the Fry's combo 2600+/ECS-L7S7A2.

The system runs fine set at bus speed of 133, but it reports a processor type of 2000+ and runs at about 1.5 GHz, which is too slow for the 2600+. Here is a list of some of the things I've done:

Set bus speed to 166 (Freezes about 30 sec. after boot)
Set memory speed to all options (no affect)
Set jumpers to CPU ratio 11.5 vs. CPU set (no affect)
Update video drivers nvidia (no affect)
Update bios to latest version and repeat above (no difference)
Set bus speed to 150 (freezes same as 166)

What else to do?

Hey, thanks for the bios update, it worked. After you flash the bios make sure you load it with optimal settings . Thanks a lot.

Some of those BIOSes would run better with the speed set to 167 - apparently because "166" was actually a setting overclocked from 133, while "167" is a non-overclocked setting with correct AGP and PCI speeds. The latest BIOS seems to have fixed this.

The 2600+ processors packed in by Fry's obviously are made for 166 MHz, so it's no surprise they run too slow when set up for 133 MHz. The jumpers for the multiplier need not be used if you want your CPU to run at its factory preset multiplier.

Ahhh, leave it to Fry's to sell a combo with a motherboard that doesn't support the CPU properly as sold. Ah well, I consider those disposable motherboards anyways.
