you want to modify your jetta or get a new car?
I suggest you talk to someone over at atpturbo.com, you can get 350hp in that car easy.

upgrade your suspension first. thats the best upgrade you can do. i suggest going with koni adjustable shocks and neuspeed sport springs

not to mention all of the problems associated with running rich over the long haul

Oh I'd say suspension, chip, intake, and exhaust for starters. I really need a new suspension and wheels myself but I'm just too damn cheap.

You mean paint the calipers.

I'd do a mild body kit and suspension with coilovers.
Then later upgrade the engine.

do some suspension work and add in swaybars as someone else stated. Definately will have a huuuge improvement almost immediately.

Not really any problem since you're upping the boost significantly. The bigger problem is how long that engine is going to live with the boost increase.

chipping your car will actually increase gas milage. as for mods, i would say, do suspension first, a rear sway bar will definately help, lower your car a bit, if you don't want to deal with a lowered car, shine street racing makes a performance setup that doesn't lower the car much if at all, but ur car handles a lot better. exhaust, depending on what you want, i would stay away from neuspeed, some good companies would be eG solid's exhaust or Miltek if you want quiet GHL if you want loud, Techtonics tuning if you want cheap. a downpipe would also bring you some nice gains in hp, there's a very cheap one on ebay ppl have been trying out. if you don't plan to upgrade ur turbo, go with a 2.5in turboback exhaust, u'll definately feel the power difference. an upgraded diverter valve also helps a bit, if you want to go all out, you can go with an turbo upgrade, atp and apr make some nice kits, atp being the cheaper of the two but lacks a little when it comes to software. if you have anyquestions pm me or surf the vortex

Seriously...

Programmed computer/upgraded "superchip"
Hi flow fuel injectors/fuel pump/fuel pressure regulator
Gapless piston rings
Oversized valves
MSD 6A Ignition w/ blaster 2 coil
If 5spd get an ACT2600 clutch
New shocks, strut bars, control arm, springs, bushings, etc (just changing shocks will not make your car handle better; only to a small degree)
Cold-air intake (true cold air, not warm air conical filter)
Underdrive pulleys
Exhaust headers, catalytic converter, exhaust piping, muffler (2 1/2" and hi-flow cat)
Larger throttle body
Tougher motor mounts
Forged pistons for higher compression
High performance camshaft
Engine balancing

Take your pick...

Edit; As far as handling goes, higher performance tires will not only increase handling capability but also acceleration. I suggest Cooper Cobras for their blend of performance/ride comfort/cost. But there are many other brands that are better for either of the reasons.

Complete waste of money.

How often is modding a car not a complete waste of money?

Don't forget to stretch your tires too, that's worth 0.05g on the skidpad and 1.7s in the quarter

How about you sell the grocery-getter and buy a car that's actually supposed to go fast?
