OK, I have built about 10 computers before, both 98 and 2000, but never had anything likethis and I just don't have the knowledge to figure it out.  Here is the story.  I installed 98 and then 2000 over that so that I could dual boot.  Using one partition until a larger hard drive arrives.  Anyway, everything was still working fine.  I was doing the drivers etc. and still progressing nicely.  Anyway, this morning I installed Office 2000 Pro on W2K. It seemed to go on fine and I restarted.  This is where the problems started.  It would get to the W2K splash screen and lock.  It also did this on 98.  I worked with it, going through safe mode, etc. to try and see what is going on, even my cousin took a look at it and couldn't figure it out.  Anyway, since I still had time to work with it and other reasons, we just decided to start again and formatted.  New problem.  When I put my 98 start-up didk in and it asks if I want to use CDROM support, I tell it yes and it stops there also.  I have tried about 6 different memory chips, clearing the BIOS, different start-up disks.  I just don't know what the problem is.  If I could narrow it down I could replace something.  Am I describing enough?  Does it sound like a hardware problem, mobo, HD, CDRom, or is it something software?  I have used this same start-up disk forever and never had problems.  Now I get nothing.  Help.  Thanks.
