Running windows 7? Click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and make sure the sound is turned up. If it is, click on mixer and make sure the sound for the app you are using is turned up. If it is, check your speakers. If everything is plugged in, then get yourself some new speakers.

To see if your speakers died...

While your speakers are powered on with the volume on the speakers turned up, pull out the plug from the jack in the back of the computer, if you hear a buzz from the speakers when you pull out the plug or touch the plug with your finger then your speakers are working.

When you right click on the speaker icon on your taskbar and select open volume control, check to see that none of the mute check boxes are selected and that the volume levels are up for Volume Control and Wave.

While music is playing, try the speakers plug in the other jacks on the sound card.

You can try going to your control panel and uninstall the sound card in your device manager then reboot and it will reinstall it. That sometimes straighten things out.

You can also try updating the driver for the sound card in the device manager.

I recently had a computer lose its sound. It came back after a reboot.

Sometimes the sound is set for headphones and the speakers dont work. You have to change the playback device. In windows 7 if you right-click on the speaker icon (bottom right), you can scroll down to the bottom and select (?Sources). One of the sources is HDMI. I dont know how the sound is hooked up on your system so after this point you have to figure it out. Another option is to select playback devices and see what is selected. Sometimes the plugs will not match up with what is plugged in where. For instance, I use a skype headphone set and it is plugged into USB.

Well thanks everyone for all your help. I thought I tried everything, and nothing worked, so I went and bought a new set of Logitech Speakers, and I have the same problem, the sound is muted. I am really frustrated now, help

What kind of sound card do you have? Guess you could always try uninstalling and re-installing the sound card drivers. It would also reset all setting to default.
