i only feed him frozen brine shrimp if that helps...

Is the curve in the hump of his back really large? They say the older a beta is, the larger that hump is. He may have just been old when you got him.

My bettas never did anything like that.

Change your water and use a good dechlorinator/stress coat and see what happens

YES LOL feeder fish that is now quite large and live in a dirty tank of 10+ years

my high school friends come by and laugh all the time about the old feeder fish that can eat other feeder fish now.

QFT

It seems like many people forget to let the water sit for a while before putting it into the tank.

Swim-Bladder Disease

Basically he has gas inside him, which cause him to not 'float' properly

When my goldfish has this, I feed them grind up frozen peas (yeah the kind you can buy from the grocery store)... this helps them get rid of the gas after a few days

Of course you need to get to the root-cause of why he got the disease (incorrect water temp, pH, other kinds of stress, etc)

They problem is he's a beta. Wait until the release version next time and it'll last longer.

LOL that made me laugh. Sorry to the OP for your plight, hopefully some of the suggestions in this thread will help.

You mean those algae eaters? I had one of them and a normal goldfish. Both fish got HUGE, and then the algae eater ate all the scales off my goldfish and he died (I measured him and he was 11.5 inches!). Then I gave the algae eater to my grandma and it died in a couple days

The water must have been too polluted for him. Are you sure you're not overfeeding him?

Glad to hear it's alright.

nah, i usually feed him every 4 days... just a sliver of brine shrimp, not much at all... but just incase i will throw that cube out and move on to a new cube...

also... i am going to do some more frequent water changes...
