So here is the deal. Her landlord refused to renew her lease at her house. As it turns out the owner is moving back in, it is not like they have been bad tennants. Now she is stuck with a DSL contract that has two months left on it @ $60 a month. She is moving into my apartment, I still have two months on my contract for DSL. How would all of you suggest avoiding the $200 early termination fee. It is not like it is her decision to cancel the Dsl she has no option, she lost her home?!

I have heard that if you are moving outside of their service coverage that the contract gets nulled. My parents cant get DSL at there house. Could we tell them to transfer it there? Then the computer would blurp out that DSL is not available, then the contract is null?

Could she say she is moving to like NY or Europe where SBC can't provide service? Would that get us out?

Is there any provision for loosing ones lease or housing situation? Where can I read the original contract?

my parents cant get dsl at there house and they have SBC. So if we gave them that address they would let the DSL go?

HELP HELP HELP HELP

we are poor recent college grads and don't have $200 right now

I say you try all the stuff you just said, and if that doesn't work, just ask to canel it because "their service is crappy". Just make some stuff up. I think this contract stuff is a load of horsecrap personally. And as a last resort, if you can, just have your service downgraded to something cheaper and just go ahead and pay the 2months at the lower rate.

You might think that, but once you've signed the contract, it really doesn't matter what you think.

Yeah, I know I just bowed down to "the man" 2 days ago and signed a 1 year contract with the local phone company for DSL, since those commies are the only broadband providers in town. Not only is there a contract, but they charge 200 bucks "install fee" and then 100 bucks a month.

so here is how to do it. Find a friend who is too far away to get service. Call up the DSL dept. Tell em to switch to that adress they will check and say no. then they let you out of your contract. you have your final bill sent wherever and you are super green! then cancel ur phone service!

Out of interest only...

$100 a month for a DSL connection? What speed?

In the UK I am paying £21 (approx. $30) for a 512Kb up/256Kb down ADSL connection. Its also a monthly contract and I can bail with as little as 2 weeks notice.

See, the thing is that england is a small country, hence there is a totally different situation there. In order to wire up everyone with broadband, you have to cover an extremely small area. Therefore, the competition can be fierce, which means lower prices, here, unless you're in a medium to large city, there might not be any broadband service available, and if there is, the only company that will provide boradband(for now at least) is the local phone company, and since the small local phone companies are allowed to get away with murder here, they can pretty much charge whatever they want, since they are the only option.

Did you consider calling the company (I assume you're with the same one), and trying to get them to transfer the extra time to your account? You could also offer to extend your contract for additional time to sweeten the deal with them.
