Help - my laptop recognizes memory less than installed.

My laptop has memory 512 MB installed but System Information shows only 384.
When I tried the memory w/ another laptop, it showed 512 MB.

What cause the system recognize sthe memory less than installed? Windows or motherboard? How to find out and fix?

Do you have 128 meg allocated to the On board graphics?

I'm sure that is what is going on but check just to make sure.
