Help! My Plextor is Killing me!!

My plextor is not working properly on my win 2000 system.

Just this month, I have completely upgraded my system. Its a beauty. I love my system, except it is Killing my patience. Here is the specs:
MSI 815E Pro motherboard
Plextor 8X4X32, bought it right before all the price dropes. I hate my-self(A college student tries hard to conserve money)!
Pentium 700E overcloacked to 945. =)
256 megs of PC 150 ram from Kingston. 2 sticks of 128.
Geforce 2 32 DDR OEM
generic sound board using Yamaha 742 chip set
Microsoft Digital 80 sound system.
Western digital 12 gig cavier 5400 rpm HD and a 30 gig Quantum Lm series 7200 ATA 66 HD
3COm ethernet card.

That is the specs. The plextor CD-RW does not work. It functions as a CD -ROM with no problem but when I tries to write a CD, it refuses to do anything. The CD-Clone software cannot write it. THe CDWIN software said that the ASPI is busy. The PLextor manager freezes when I tries to view the detail of the PLextor Writer!!
I cannot update the Firm Ware either because it freezes and does not responde. I have the intel Ultra ATA drivers installed and the Adoptec software installed. I didn't have this kinda of problme with my old system with the BX motherboard and 128 megs of ram. (Oh, by the way, I'm running on a dula boot of ME and win2K.)
I'm running out of ideas on how to fix this thing!! I'm going crazy. ANyway, my comp is getting me worried. I hope it is nothing major. Oh and the Video card is kinda slow. Under win2K MDK2, 640x480 and 1024x748, 32bit, T&L, only 60 fps. AHHHHHHH. SOme one help me with some ideas of how to fix this?? Please. Thanks you to whomever that helps me out. Thanks.

You mentioned the dual boot with ME...have you tried updating the firmware in it? Does it work in ME?

Check out this. Plextor says the problem is the Intel Ultra ATA drivers.

Do NOT install the Intel ATA Drivers when you are using IDE CDRWs. They will ALWAYS cause problems....this is a known issue.

Well, in Win ME, I could update the Firm Ware and the Intel Ultra ATA drivers were installed. :frown: The drive works. How ever, Win 2k does not. I think it might be the ATA drivers too, but I uninstalled them, But the Plextor still does not work. Should I reinstall everything again?? And leave out the ATA driver? But on my dad's computer, his HP I910 still works even with the Ultra ATA drivers, but he does have a single boot of win2k. So should I reinstall everthing to see if that was the problem? THanks for the reply it helped.

Oh, I was just wondering, If I uninstall the Ultra ATA drivers would it affect the performance of my system??
Would my Hard Drive interface with the 815E slow to ATA 33??
Just wondering?? Dose the new ATA 100 and 66 need the drivers to be enabled??
