You are selling yourself short with that banker comment. This was a fairly serious undertaking and you breezed right through. You basically rebuilt the entire system and then even had to go all command line on the OS (I've never done that stuff).
I imagine banking pays better than tech work but maybe you missed your calling?
Thanks, I've always been reasonably good at problem solving in general not just tech stuff. Like if there is a problem with my car and the mechanic cant quite pin it down usually I can ask him the basics of how the part works and then say something like, well why don't you try x?
I considered going into IT just my background has been finance/business/management. But don't worry when a computer breaks at the bank I'm the goto guy!
As for going "all command line on the OS" I googled "replaced motherboard windows 7 wont boot" and clicked the first link and read the 3rd post and typed the command exactly haha. Actually the syntax in the post wasn't quite right, he must have done it from memory so I did have to do some trial and error command line parsing to figure it out.
Edit: If banking paid that much I could just pay a minion to do it and not have to do all this macguyver crap!
