Help, my taskbar dissapeared

Hi all,

My taskbar is no longer at the bottom of the screen. It was there a minute ago, but it seems to have dissapeared when I accidentally droped something on the keyboard (hitting a button?). You can see the wallpaper now where the taskbar once was, but you can't right click on it at all or anything. Sort of like there is a block of area that you can't click the size of where the taskbar once was.

How to fix?

you just have to put your mouse cursor down there untill you see the up and down arrow, then pull your taskbar back up

Nope. It isn't that. If that would happen, there would be a thin white bar at the bottom. There isn't ANYTHING.

Mine doesn't have a white line, regardless
Hit your windows key, that will bring up your task bar then right click on the bar select properties then uncheck autohide if its checked.

If the box is clear then try a reboot, if you have not tried that already.

I already tried the windows key... and it doesn't bring up the taskbar (and it isn't on auto hide).

I haven't tried a reboot because I am downloading something that won't be done for a couple of hours (that would have been the first thing I tired).

What does it bring up? CTRL + ESC should bring up your Start key and right-clicking on it will give properties, i.e. Taskbar and Start Menu Properties. If you are able to get it, click "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows."

If this doesn't work, you may have a trojan (backdoor.sdbot.gen) or a corrupted registry key.

you can still get to control panel using my computer, then access the taskbar settings through there. Might help something i guess. Otherwise, reboot, that seems to fix most problems.

Yeah, I just saw where he hasn't rebooted because he's downloading something. I just assumed he did - it's usually one of the first steps we all take.

Definitely reboot before you start looking at the more serious causes...

You could always try restarting the Explorer.exe process.

Ctrl+Shft+Esc will bring up Task Manager and kill explorer.exe. That's the shell. Once you do that it should restart (if it doesn't you can do it manually) and the taskbar may appear.

Well, I got it fixed (just forgot to post in this thread).

I had to turn auto-hide on, then turn it off again.
