Help, my x1900xtx makes weird noises full load!

As title says... what happened was I was on WoW, then all of a sudden I hear a weird "criket" sound coming from my rig, video disappears while sound still plays, then after a second or so my computer shuts down. I try to power it on 5 seconds later and it doesn't even reach the Windows loading screen before I hear the sound, then shutsdown again.

I do a CMOS to reset my overclocking and everything seems fine. I also disable ATI Tools o/c on my x1900xtx (700/800) stock cooler, been running fine since.. however, I notice that the "cricket" sound is still there. When I'm running a game its there, but whenever I alt-tab out it stops. Anyone else experience this? Any ideas?

please post your specs of your cpu in detail so that we can make or rule out assumptions.
whats your power supply like, (with total amps)
cpu speed (alreready posted), ram, windows xp version, hard drive, optical drives and how long have you had the x1900xtx as in, is it just doing this as soon as you installed it or was it running fine befeore this?

160GB WD SATA II 8mb
Pioneer 110 DVD-RW
Grandmars X1900XTX @ 700/800 (before the aforementioend problems, now its just on stock)
Creative X-FI eXtremeMusic
Seventeam 550w PSU
Windows XP Pro SP 2

I've had the x1900xtx for about 2 months I think, and it was running fine with the 700/800 o/c. What I did was just use ATI Tools to set the Fan Settings so that at 60C the fan would be at 100%. After I did that I ran CCC Overdrive and it maxed out, which is 700/800. Everything was fine for maybe a few weeks, then what I said in the original post occured. As of now I have restored my CPU OC, removed ATI Tools fan settings and went to default settings on CCC so that everything is at default on my x1900xtx.
Like I said, i still notice this "cricket" type of sound when in 3d apps.

How do you check amps on a specific rail? And what would be the recommended amps?
and...if my value checks out to be insufficient, what PSU would you recommend? Silverstone? Antec? Tagan?

Antec, Enermax, OCZ. Enermax 485W noisetaker works well (dual +12V rails, 32A total combined power), Antec 550W+ works well (dual +12V rails, 36A peak power), OCZ 520W (28A on +12V rail, 40A peak) works well. Enermax Liberty 500W is another good choice but it's specs are very similar to the 485W noisetaker, just more expensive + modular (depends on how important that is to you).

All three of those brands (Antec, Enermax, OCZ) make very high quality PSU's.

How did that get diagnosed as a PSU issue? I mean, could it not just be the fan? Worn out? Hence making clicking noise in 3D apps, when the core is running at higher clock?

If you crank the fan speeds in ATI software, does the criket increase in volume/frequency?

Admittedly, Seventeam aren't exactly a brand name, so the PSU IS probably a bit crap, but it just seemed to be blamed instantly, which seems a bit odd, as it blatantly seems like it's the fan making the noise.

Just trying to save some $$

No it doesn't matter what fan speed its on...3d app = clicking, windows = fine =/
In attempting to find out more about my PSU, I came across this review http://sg.vr-zone.com/?i=2794&s=1 , 12V rails have 18A max , this PSU can also handle SLI...
I'm beginning to think that my card is busted.

search is your freind, I have read alot of post stating this same type of issue, a squeak or squeal (not clicking) from the fan when it is really being used.
Here is the exact thread I was talking about when I questioned the PSU, I was by no means setting out on a witchhunt on his PSU I was just trying to be helpfull

Oh.. maybe I should mention that as soon as I got the card, I ran CCC's overdrive with everything stock, it made the high pitch sqeaking sound... is this normal?
However, the cricketing sound I'm experiencing in 3d apps now is different, I really doubt that its the fan because in windows I turn up the fan to 100% via ATI Tools but no cricketting.

Oh and thanks for the info Fists, I will try changing my PSU.

I had a similar issue. The PSU in my current computer is dying. When it started, the computer would shut off randomly in windows and while playing WoW. Stopped doing it once I took the 6600GT (AGP) out. New PSU should be here tomorrow.

OK, sorry, wasn't trying to have a go at you, I just hadn't read that before about those clicking noises. Thanks.
