Looking for recommendations for a good MicroATX form factor MoBo with Super Socket 7 that is suitable for AMD K6-2s or K6-IIIs. Kinda like to stay with the AMD chips - yeah, I know, I'm a little off! Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks folks!

I recently moved my AMD6-2 500mhz to a Microstar MSI5169 motherboard and I am very happy with it. Booted right up after install and have had zero problems with it. I got it because I wanted to get away from my Compaq Presario's onboard vid and sound. Now I'm waiting for Socket A boards to get here.

BTW, Glendor and Daddy Sasquatch, are both of those MoBos microATX? That's the only thing that I can squeeze into this weird little box! LMK, okay? Thanks!

2336,

what you out for? A maximum performance setup (meaning you want a 100 MHz mainboard with an AGP slot and zip onboard), or a simple improvement over what you have there?

For the latter case, the one to get is PC-Chips M599LMR - it's MicroATX, uses the SiS 530 chipset for integrated VGA, UDMA66 IDE, two USB, and 100 MHz CPU bus. It also sports onboard C-Media 8738 4.1-channel PCI 3D audio and softmodem plus an SiS 900 10/100 PCI LAN chip. Or if you can get its successor M581LMR already, get that. It uses the much faster SiS 540 all-in-one-chip monster for the same features, but with much better 3D graphics performance.

If you're after the further setup, I'll have to pass. I don't recall any mATX super-7 board that doesn't either use an SiS integrated-VGA chipset or eats up the AGP bus by using some other low performance onboard VGA.

Thank again, Peter! I'm still trying to get info out of eMachines, and TriGem, the manufacturer of my current board. But I'm still looking at replacing the board.

Peter, this current MoBo measures approx. 9 1/2" x 8 1/2", that's MicroATX, right? Or would a BabyATX fit? I'm not real familiar with the measurements of the various form factors. Thanks again for all your input and advice. You've certainly helped point me in the right direction.

24x22 cm, that may be MicroATX, but may be BabyAT as well.

Have a look at:

http://www.pcchips.com.tw/M599LMR.html

to get an idea of what a MicroATX board looks (this is a very small one 24.4 cm wide x 19 cm long, others are longer but no wider). Note that the outside world connector layout and slot count are totally different from BabyAT boards like its twin brother ...

http://www.pcchips.com.tw/M598LMR.html

There's no such thing as BabyATX, btw. Nothing inbetween full-size ATX (seven slot positions) and MicroATX (four).

Be warned that this is a poor performance board.
If you want something that just work but don't care about the turtle
speed it offers you then I can't blame you.
It take about 25 sec before the screen will post
where else a fast motherboard takes about 5 sec.
Do not be temped by the onboard stuff they are the worst junk of the planet, they are generic as SIS makes low quality product.
Their onboard harddrive controller have no busmastering at all
enabling it will corrupt windows
You have to set to PIO MODE, meaning cpu do all the workload of
harddrive accessing.
The onboard soundpro is not fully soundblaster 16 compatible,
only soundblasterpro in DOS mode, and 16 bit sound in windows
and have no equalizer such as treble, bass.
Please I'm trying to save you a headache if you want quality
go with DFI ATX DMA/66 AGP2x has system monitoring too
If you do 3D gaming such as Quake3D, and
any games at all such as AOE II
You will need a decent board, cause they will run like a turtle
and crashes randomly using these onboard everything motherboard.
The world does not know but I do and I have shared what I have learned
from using these board vs quality board.

Hyper99,

your usual troll message ... from your "facts" anyone can see you never used any of the stuff you're writing about. Hell, you didn't even care to read what the original poster is after, and give useless advice. Shut up.

no regards, Peter
