Hi,

I'm a newbie to this so here goes. I just got a SN41G2 box and put in an Athlon XP 1700+ cpu in, but on post it's reading as 1500+. I tried increasing the FSB from 100 to 133, but on a reboot, the box shuts down and the AGP protection light comes on. I need to pull the plug at this point and on a reboot, hold down the "Insert" key.

Any tips or tricks on how I can get my SN41G2 to run/detected at 1700+?

This is on my box currently:

512MB of PC3200 DDR RAM
40GB IBM HD
Liteon 16X CD-ROM

okay...I did some playing around and changed from Optimal settings to Aggressive in the BIOS and now on POST, my box shows as a 2100+. I guess I can live with that for now.

I'd still entertain any ideas on why I wasn't able to get it to detect as a 1700+ Athlon XP, but I can live with it running at 2100+ instead.

I've never had a motherboard that overclocked the processor when you switched to the various configurations like aggressive and what not. Is that a new thing?

Also, when you say 1500+, do you mean the processor is being identified as 1500+ and running at 1.33 Ghz or is it running at 1.5Ghz?

On POST, it was showing that was an Athlon XP 1500+. I'll have to look again after I write down all the BIOS settings that's letting this cpu run at 2100+ right now and switch it back to Optimal settings.

I know it sounds strange since I've been reading about how to overclock, you need to do the wire trick, but this cpu has no wires on the pins. It's just an OEM Athlon 1700+ (at least that's what the AMD sticker says on the cpu).

After switching from Optimal to Aggressive, it's being detected on POST as a 2100+. I open up Win2K and look under My Computer | Properties and it's showing as an Athlon XP 2100+.

I'm kinda glad I'm not the only one scratching their head on this. As I said...if it's being detected and running at 2100+, I'm not gonna complain.

Well I don't know why it would show up as a XP1500. But as far as overclocking on the nForce2 boards you don't need to do a wire trick on the TBREDS. You adjust the settings to what you like or what the chip likes. I have a XP2100 B that is a out of a batch of 2700 and I can set the FSB to 166 at default voltage and it runs fine all day long. I just don't need that much heat so I keep my at default speeds for websurfing and emailing. I don't game other than NWN so I don't tax my system at all.
