I have two PCs with XP Pro using DSL through a router. I have ran the Network Setup Wizard on both and selected the option that both are connected to a hub (because there was no router option) and the network isn't working. Should I be running the wizard on both and then chosing 'other' and going with hub? I can't get the network to work.

1. Run the "Setup a Small Home Or Office Network Wizard

2. Go to My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View > Scroll Down to the
Last entry and Make Sure "Use Simple File Sharing" is NOT checked.

3. Go to your "Local Area Connection" and right click and go to Properties >
Advanced > Uncheck Protect My Computer and Network by Limiting or
Preventing access to this Computer from the Internet. (Turn off XP's Built
in Firewall until you get your network up).. Make sure both are using the same name for 'Workgroup' and have
Different Computer Names. Be sure to turn off any other Software Firewalls also for the time being.

5. Have an account setup on both computers that are exactly the same in
both name and password!

6. Share drives and printers.

7. To access the shares you can Go to Start > Run and type in \\computer name\share OR click on
MY Network Places..

Also, here's a Help Guide

BTW, concerning what to chose for the Networking wizard, all Routers have either a built in Hub or Switch..

Ok, thanks. I unchecked simple file sharing and the built in firewall was already unchecked. When I view my network places, shouldn't there be something else besides "internet" listed?

Yes, If you have shared anything such as a Folder, Drive or Printer and you have setup your user list along with Permissions.

If you're not sure on how to do any of those, check the link in my first post..
