Aunt just bought a imac 20inch screen computer, core duo etc.

1. Where is the uninstall software location?

2. Photoshop 7 Mac version doesnt seem to work. Does it not suppose to work? CS2 Photoshop Mac addition is available to her as well. Will CS2 work? Is Rosetta build into these new macs or do i have to download it to force it to run photoshop?

all at the moment, but will probably have more soon. =(

there is no uninstall. just drag from the applications folder to the trash bin.

cs2 isn't intel native, probably best to wait for the next release unless you need it immediately. i have a ppc mac, so i can't answer your rosetta question, but as far as i know it's built in.

Rosetta is built in. There is nothing to tell you that it is running. It just runs on its own.

Congrats on your new Mac! Welcome to the platform.

1. As fisher mentioned, there is no uninstaller for Mac - just drag the application (or application folder) to the trash, and it's gone. If you want to really make sure everything's gone, there's a fun little shareware app called AppZapper that will delete any applications as well as any related preference files.

2. I haven't installed Photoshop 7 on an Intel Mac yet, but in theory, Rosetta should handle it rather seamlessly. CS2 is well known to run in Rosetta, albeit with some slight performance hits. CS3 is reported to be fully Intel-native, and should ship sometime in Spring '07.

You're bound to have quite a lot of questions. If you have a local Apple retail store, there's an excellent resource for you right there: just make an appointment at the Genius Bar if you have any questions...or better yet, ask about their Pro Care service, which gets you an hour per week (for a year) of one-on-one training and/or support from an expert in their store (Genius Bar appointments are usually 10 - 15 mins or so).

There are also a lot of Mac communities/forums online, including MacNN, MacAddict, SpyMac, and others (including parts of ArsTechnica).

Again, welcome...and good luck!

Nah, it's like a cult, they act all nice and suck you in. Then they steal your soul.

You could do /usr/libexec/oah/translate <path to photoshop> to force Rosetta to kick in.

hehe actually it isn't very mac friendly here, but there are a few people who aren't blinded by hate. the macrumors.com forums are also a good alternative, quite a few knowledgable people there.

As others have pointed out, Photoshop (and all other Adobe applications) are not yet compiled for Intel CPUs, so they will run fairly slow. Adobe CS3 will be Intel native, however, but not until 2007.

In the mean time, you can try out some of these native Intel graphics applications that should also take advantage of your aunt's X1600 graphics:

Many of these programs are new and/or updated often. Most are also shareware, so you can try before you buy. Might be at least fun to play with, then toss.
