Help!!!! I'm at my wits end ,I've built a new system with the kt7raid .its been a week now and still no luck -the damn thing keeps on locking up,I've disabled sb16 emulator ,assigned it its own irq by setting it to legacy, put the memory to its most conservative settings ,downloaded and installed the newest bios ,hpcontroller,via4n1,usbfilter.I've even downloaded and installed the newest elsa driver for my video card,I've even upped the voltage i0 and core one notches and the thing still keeps on locking up(blue screen with WINDOWS PROTECTION SOMETHING ).What do you think is the problem.I've even changed the memory and the harddisk.could it possibly the mofo or the generic 300 watts power?I'm really desperate.. fact is I am already thinking of returning the KT7-raid inexchange for the a7v.has anyone have any bad experiences on the asus. Thanks for your time

Big Bird,

My roomate and I both bought the KT7-Raid board. Mine works fine (after buying Crucial memory), and he had to send his back because of the same problems that you are having. The company tested his board and determined that it was a bad board... He had the exact same problems as you (Blue screens ALL the time, general protection faults, memory errors).

Sorry if this is bad news, but you might want to RMA that board...

BUT DON'T GET AN A7V BOARD!!!!! I had an A7V before the Raid board. It was nothing but troubles. Ended up selling it on Egay. And if you take a look at the forums here, you will see that many people have problems with the A7V.

PS - I was having alot of problems with my Geforce GTS card too with the KT7-Raid. I ended up buying a Radeon... Maybe that's another option for you.

Just woke up from the same nightmare. The solution turned out to be:

Follow the PCI slot selection on Paul's Unofficial KT FAQ page on APU's hardware site. Slot 4 for SBLive is best.

Make sure you have the UL1.03 or UZ Bios flash from APU's

Update your video drivers

Which OS? 98SE freezes with MSBackup installed, install it without.

Use the WIN98 patch for fast processors/flushing cache.

Use Liveware 3, but do'nt let it load till after you get things cleaned up. Look at config.sys and autoexec.bat for references to SBLive and delete them.

If all else fails, RMA the board, but I am so far happy after a few days of sleepless nights. It ain't easy, but it's worth the effort...

Unless you've run the memory on another system and know that it's good, I'd be suspicious of the PQI memory. It may have been my bad luck but I tried a stick of PQI PC133 333 and couldn't get it to run stable at any frequency - finally took it back and went for a stick of micron. Not the same mobo but a similar sounding situation - Try some PC100 that you know is good with the conservative settings - you might be surprised

posting on this thread as I too have had kt7 raid problems but it deals only when raiding hard drives together.

the manual states the boot order must be set to raid/raid/raid for first/second/third boot options which means you can't boot from a floppy... After fdisking the riad array your left with an invalid media that will never boot... Obviously I assumed that was wrong so I changed order to floppy/cdrom/raid... Every format on the raided disks ended up locking the system when writing the FATs. The darn thing worked fine non raided. Also for some really messed up reason the secondary ide chain (ata 66 not 100) did not work.

For the last reason I am seeking an RMA but for the first problems, does anyone else have that problem?

Thanks for the input guys but so far I'm not out of the woods yet.I've reinstalled everything except the liveware 3.0 following the install order on pauls abitkt7 fact and its seems it helped a bit.In 9 hours I've only experienced 2 crashes,Should I be grateful? and is this quite normal.I've read a post somewhere that if the problem was related to the psu then the whole thing would hangup from the very start and you wouldn't be able to even get into windows?,is this true?.Should I rule out the psu as a source of problem?. is bad psu same as a bad memory, can you tell from the error which one is the culprit?,and also whats a recommended voltage i/o and core for a thunderbird 1 ghz.
Do you think reinstalling the liveware 3.0 is a good idea?.once again thanks

I've built a number of machines on the KT7-Raid and KT7. I've not had any problems with the RAID setup using the newest IBM ATA/100 drives all the way back to WD 20 Gig 5400 RPM Drives. Maybe I'm just lucky.

I will tell you one thing that at first was freaking me out REALLY BADLY because my first 4 boards all locked up constantly, even in the BIOS screen! It turned out that these mobo's (as reported elsewhere and on the KT7 FAQ) have a problem with many fans plugged into the mobo on fan monitoring connectors. I removed my CPU fan from the CPU power connector and connected it to a non-monitored connector (by the AGP Slot) and VOILA!!!, no more lockups at all.

Any chance that you guys have your CPU fans plugged into the monitoring connectors?
