Help - no video to monitor, only dos boot up screens

well i have to disconnet my pc because i was painting and now i wben i try and hook it back up i get the DOS boot up stuff and the win98 logo (don't ask why i am running win98) and then the monitor/screen goes blank like there is nothing connnected to it.

any ideas? i have not changed a single thing except the ethernet cable is not plugged in (wll be going wireless in a few days). the monitor, the keyboard and mouse are all the same. i did have a KVM hooked up before and tried again with that connected and it still does the same thing.

This happened to me long time ago - it was thinking it had a secondary display connected.
Have you tried entering safe mode?

ummm... really digging into long term memory here but...

display properties, default monitor?

or... if this is AGP onboard check bios to make sure init display is set to AGP??

Sorry, but it was a very long time ago(at least 5 years, maybe 6...)

ok. i got it working now. i did a couple things.

reset BIOS to defaults and then switched some settings that i know had to change
boot into safe mode and uninstall all the monitors, somehow there was more than 1
reboot
prompted to install P&P monitor - did that, reboot
came up in 16 bit mode
install nvidia drivers
restart

works fine now. have no idea why that happened, but thanks.

thanks. no idea why it happened. i just shut it down, unhooked all the cables and then set it back up again .... who knows ... its fixed now though.
