I just bought a combo off a guy at Hard OCP forums that was supposed to do 1000MHz.. This was a pretested setup from OCZ..

I am unable to get it to 1000, well I actually did get it there for a few minutes... I'll explain in a sec..
here's my setup:
KT7raid
duron 700
128MB PC133 EMS SDRAM (cas2)
GF2 GTS (reference board)
Live value
3c905
3c509b
win98 SE
7237 case w/all panaflo L1As, 300 watt
26ºc case / 33ºc cpu @900MHz

I did most of my testing with just the vid card in.. It was setup out of the box, but wouldn't make it to desktop (BSOD),. So I loaded the setup defaults and tried upping in 50 MHz incrememts and and ran a few tests each time... I made it up to 950 but a Q2 timedemo locked it hard in about 1/2 second

So I'm running pretty stable at 900 now. Everything is tweaked and running well Q2 Q3A Prime95 (bout an hour or two) 3DMark2000, no lockups or crashes...

He had this same combo running at 1000MHz with no problems. Only major difference is he was using a Stealth III s540 32MB PCI, and I have the GTS AGP..

I've tried setting RAM to cas 3 (swapped with a NEC stick for a bit too) and tried a couple differnt multiplier / bus speeds, and I just can't get it to load..
I did get it to load with a Asus V6800 DDR Pure... after about 9-10 tries with BSODs and registry fixes it finally loaded, and I was able to re-boot (and shut down restart) about 3-4 times. I thought maybe we had found the problem, so I tried a Q2 timedmo... no go, locked solid, and wasn't able to get it to the desktop again after another 8-10 tries.
Temps were looking good via HWM while in windows 21-32ºc (not sure how accurate the HWM is)
Most times while I have been "trying" it has read around 44ºc in the bios...
I broke down and tried an old ISA vid cards for sh1ts and giggles, but it didn't work, then remembered my bros. PC that was over here for a tune up, so I tried his V3 2000 with no luck...

Errors I'm seeing:
BSOD - fatal exception
windows protection error
Registry errors and restores

Most of the articles I've read (newbie to AMDs ) on OCing have included GTS grahics cards..
And it realy seems odd to me that this would be the problem as I'm not running the PCI out of speck.. correct ?? I would think that the prerifs. would have less of an influence on a OC with Multiplier.

Any ideas on what else I might try? Or opinions on what's holding me back?

Thanks!

EDIT:
Just thought I'd mention:
The board was setup out of the box at 10x100 1.825v
I tried that and 1.85v
900 is running at 1.725v

oops sorry bout the color.. just changed it

I've got the same combo from the same place, and have the same results as you. 900mhz is solid as a rock, but going any higher, things start to get shaky (running WinME btw). I've settled for 8.5x106 (901 proc/141 mem), and I'm happy. It's very very stable (in WinME, no less), and set me back a total of $237 for the proc/mobo/hsf deliverd.

In order for this thing to hit 1ghz *stable*, I beleive I would need a FOP32 or equivalent mounted *perfectly* (contacting core with just a sliver of paste), probably a higher quality PS (I'm using a cheapo $50 case with a 250w PS), and some premium PC133 cas2.

I'm using some older assorted PC100 ram (2 nec 64mb sticks and 1 micron 32mb stick), so I have to run it at cas 3. However, it is stable at 141mhz; I'm very surprised.

BTW, I'm using a Creative TNT2 Ultra. Sure, I'd love to hit the 1ghz mark, but the reality of the situation is that with this combo, it would mean only a 5% or so overall performance increase, which is not noticeable at all. So I'm leaving it as it is, and I'm happy with that. For more power, I'll just wait for the 1.2 tbirds to drop in price, and in the meantime, load up on inexpensive quality (Crucial) PC133 and a GF2Gts.

EDIT: oops, I've got the KT7 (no raid), so my setup is slightly different. For this discussion however, the 2 mobo's are identical...

I bought the same setup from OCZ also. I bought a Duron 600 pretested to go at 950. When it showed up it had 1000 written on the bottom. So I figured it would to 1ghz. I can't get it to go past a 8.5 multiplier.

Here's my setup:
KT7raid
duron 600
Alpha 6035PAL
384MB PC133 Crucial CAS2 RAM (256 + 128)
Radeon 32MB DDR
Diamond MX300
win98 SE
Antec KS282, 300 watt
39ºc cpu @850MHz
1.7V Vcore

I've got it running stable at 884Mhz (8.5 x 104Mhz cpu/138Mhz mem).

The only thing I haven't tried is manipulating the I/O voltage.

I'm with you TheSentinel, going up to 1Ghz wouldn't really give me that big of a boost. The 1.3Ghz Tbirds are supposed to be coming out soon so the prices will take a little dip again soon.

Unfortunately, I guess I'll get to 1Ghz when I actually buy a 1Gh+ chip.

Hmmm.

I have a Duron 800 which I've had OC'd to 1 gig for three weeks - running 24/7.

I dunno if the power supply is that big of an issue- for the first two weeks I ran the system off a Sparkle 235 watt PS unit. Subsequently, I upgraded to an Antec SX830 case which has a 300 watt PS.

Honestly cannot tell the difference as far as the PS

My System:
Abit KT7-Raid
Duron 800 at 1000 ( 10 by 10; volts at 1.725; cpu temps range 100 to 105F)
Artic Silver
Alpha PEP 66 (initially used an Alpha 6035 - the pep66 cools the cpu better)
256 meg Crucial PC133 cas2
Matrox G400
Yamaha 16/10/40 Burner
Acer 50X CD Rom
Zip 100 Drive

I used the rear window defogger repair stuff to unlock my duron.

I dunno - seems that each chip has its own limits.
