Help on Broadband sharing

I am wondering if anyone in here would be able to help me on this issue. I have just built a new PC and want to share the existing cable connection of my old. I bought two new linksys 10/100MB NIC's and the 4 port Router. I have not received them yet but I was wondering if it was just as easy as running the CAT 5 cable from the modem to the router and then a CAt 5 cable to each of my PC's? It seems too easy but is that it?

I have a linksys 4 port router and basically connected the cables and that was it.

That's pretty much it. Basically the "broadband router" will take the one IP address that your ISP assigns, & then run NAT for your internal machines. Just make sure each of your systems is set up for DHCP, & that your existing broadband hardware is a DHCP server & you should be good to go. If your existing hardware doesn't run DHCP you'll have to use the web interface of the router to hardcode the WAN side addressing.

No big deal, though.

Yeah, the hardware is VERY easy. Configuring Windows is pretty easy as well, but can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. Visit Gibson Research for more detailed info.

If you're setup for dynamic IP addressing from the cable company, setup will be a snap. Just plug the cables in. The router is already setup for DHCP on both sides. Just gotta put in your host name and password to log into the cable company's equipment.

If you have a static IP, you'll have to go thru and setup the router, putting in your IP address etc.

Both are not too bad, just follow the included directions. Nothing to get intimidated by. Nothing you can really break...

Yup, it's that easy... Make sure you're using TCPIP to talk, set it up depending on whether or not your ISP is static or dynamic; enable internet connection sharing on your host..and away you go... Win 2K does all this very nicely...I have same setup at home...
