Help on my iPod

Alright, my iPods screwed. i posted like 2 months ago but didn't find too much help but this time i just need a second opinion. I believe my iPod's HD is fragged. the bug comes in two varieties depending on what seems to be the mood of the iPod. when i restart into apple firmware i will either: a) get into a normal apple firmware with all my songs and such. but if i go to music -> playlists -> my playlist and point to a song and hit play, the iPod will freeze for about half a minute to a minute. it will then go to now playing and get stuck, not playing any music, with the timer set to 0:00 and all the buttons locking up, if i press a few buttons eventually it'll move but nothing plays. during this time i can hear, if i put my ear to the iPod, the sound of the HD stopping and starting up again. the other flavour my ipod shows up in is b) i'll load apple firmware and it'll ask me for what language i would like my ipod in as if it was a new baby. all my songs will be deleted (well not really because then i'll go back to flavor a) occasionally) and i won't really be able to do much but restart. If I plug it into my computer and try to run apple firmware updater i just get a cannot mount drive message or something like that. Does this sound like an HD problem and if so is there any non-warranty way to fix it while preferably keeping BOTH my arm and leg... If not i'm jumping for an Archos

My Ipod was acting up, I was getting clicking sounds, I ran the updater and it would work for a while then freeze up.

I was going to order a replacement hard drive, then I read online about a bunch of people who fixed their Ipod drive problems by slamming them in their hands. I figured I had nothing to lose so I tried it. I slammed it on the side a few times, then restored it and it has been working fine for the past three weeks.

I would only do it as a last resort, but it worked for me and a bunch of other people.

I noticed something like this when i was listening to it and... well... lets just say i got a wee bit angry at it stopping and acting like described above but it stopped working again in 5 minutes and hitting it didn't work. I'll give it a shot when i get home, maybe i didn't hit it hard nuff . any other suggestions until then?

That is a last resort all the time and usually if the hard drive does come back to life, it will only be for a very short time.

Those toshiba hard drives are VERY fragile! Hitting them will only create bad sectors which will continue to develop on the drive.

As for your issue with your iPod... your iPod's hard drive is toast. The only option you've got at fixing it now is to either replace the hard drive or send it to someone (like me) to have them replace it.

It's not hard to do, however finding the spare parts and tools to open up the iPod are somewhat difficult and making sure you get the right replacement part is the key.

If you're interested in having me fix it or having me help you find the tools and parts, please PM me and I'll help you out in any way I can.

Thanks
