Help On School Newspaper Topic

Hey all,

I am on my HS newspaper, and we have one more issue to churn out. Anyway, I was wondering if you guys have any ideas as to something that would be a good story? I am in the commentary section so I can write about a large variety of stuff, though if it can relate somehow to people in HS that is best. Anyone know of some interesting political issue or ethical issue going on right now that would make and interesting article? I am out of ideas and have to come up with one by tommorow.

Try this, we started a mag called "Social Spice" back in High School. Its copyrighted but you can see what kind of stuff you can write about.. enjoy. Need Adobe PDF reader to read them.

Sadly, I don't believe that my teacher would let the staff make a paper like that. And it is too late in the year to start up one. But I might browse it for ideas anyway. Thanks for the link.

Not a bad idea. I will consider that one, and pass it along as well in case anyone else want to take it. But I am more interested on heated controversy (sp?) type of topics, so if anyone can think of something like that it would be cool.

Do a search for happykitten's threads (no sarcasm). Some are really thought-provoking.

I guess you can write about that KKK member that was just recently convicted to life for throwing a bomb into a church in 1963 and killing 4 young girls. Yeah, the murderer goes to jail after 38 years...

Or about the fact that the supreme court recently ruled that it's okay to make one sexual harrassment remark in the workplace. So look out female workers, that male worker may just use that opportunity to tell you all the offensive things you didn't want to hear during that one time and you can't do a darn thing about it...

I don't know, race and gender issues always bothers me, and I feel compelled to write about them or talk about them. Your readers might be different. Just something to think about

Oh yeah, or write about raves, and the use of E in raves.

datalink7> The teachers didnt know of the magazine at first. But some got the hold of the first copy from students reading it in class. They found it of high quality and loved it. However on the second copy we got into trouble with the teachers. That is why we restarted it with teachers guiding us. We had the two best teachers in school to guide us, all they wanted was a copy first. We preffered the biology teacher to the CS teacher, since we knew her better. It was all good.. The first two issues had some remarks about teachers and that is what got us into trouble.

But still a good read. We were the ONLY batch to do something like this.

Didn't know about that supreme court ruling. That is somthing I would like to write about. Thanks. BTW... didn't the supreme court just rule something like you can be hancuffed and dragged into jail for any crime, even not wearing a seat belt? I thought I heard something of the sort.

Of cource, the issue that I looked at from you link was the &quot;second paper&quot; uneditied So that is why I said we couldn't do anything like it.

actually, I am not sure if this is the one you are talking about, but a women was recently arrested and fined in Texas for not buckling her child in the car. She explained that she was just stopping on the side of the road to show her kid something, and was like really close to home anyway. And the cop was probably frustrated or something, and he arrested her, and searched through her car. The lady took it to court, they ruled in the cops favor, took it to the supreme court, and the supreme court, said that the cop had the rights to arrest her and search her car, even though the cop was an idiot and shouldn't have done it. Go figure Anyway, I don't know much about the details, but it was somewhere along these lines.
