Just built my new system and everything is fine except a few things (of course). First of all, my sys specs:

Duron 800, Asus A7v133, 256mb crucial pc133 cas2, 30gig maxtor 7200rpm ATA100, Asus AGP-7100 pure geforce 2mx, sblive value, win98 first edition

Anyway, I have an unknown device that reads PCI Mass Storage Adapter, what is this? Anyone have any input?

Also, I'm having a bit of trouble with the SBLive drivers, when I install them, I restart and my system goes into a loop. It will get to the win98 start screen and then automatically reboot. I can stop this by booting into safe mode and rem'ing out the sbeinit.com entry in the autoexec.bat file, and it will restart fine for the first time but it will happen again next time I reboot so I have to go into safe mode again and do it all over again. Haven't tried the latest drivers, it's too late right now (2:30am) have to go to bed, so that's tomorrow Anyone having similar experiences?

Thanks in advance everyone!

Hi,
I believe what you are experiencing is a driver error. When SBLive boots for the first time, it actually then installs the drivers, not when you run the install program. So, I would believe ther might be an error there. Also check to make sure you have the IRQs set properly. SBlive usually can not share IRQ with other resources. As for your mas storage controller question, that's your ATA100 HD controller. I believe it is on your mobo, but you may have a PCI card instead. You just need to install the appropriate drivers for this controller. Hope this helped.
As Always,
D

did you mobo come with a cd ...... drivers should be on cd if the controller is on your mobo

if it is a promise technology or anyother brand controller you should download their latest drivers... usually via their websites

That constant restart issue is being caused by the SB16 emulator not being able to share resources with another device that you have already installed. You need to boot into safe mode the change the SB16 emulator settings in the device manager so it will share resources with the LPT port. The pci storage adapter just means that you have not installed the proper chipset drivers for your mainboard yet or your mainboard has a intergrated ide/raid controller along with the standard ide controller provided by the southbrige part of the chipset, and you have not installed the drivers for it yet also. Now rereading your post again and seeing that you have the A7v133 model, that model has the Promise Ultra 100 chipset intergrated on the board so you need to install the Ultra 100 drivers.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Unfortunately I'm at school right now so I will have to wait till I get home to try out your suggestions. Kinda dumb of me not to install the drivers on the motherboard cd! Oh well, I'll try it all out and let you know how it goes, thanks again!

Okay, fixed it all. I first tried just changing the settings on the SBLive but that didn't chang much, still rebooted at startup. So, I checked the troubleshooting on creative's site and they had a problem listed as windows won't shutdown after drivers installed. So I read over it and it turns out it was a problem with the SB16 emulation as well and described exactly the proceedure to disable it. Also, stupid me finally installed the ATA100 controller drivers and now everything is running smooth. Thanks guys!
