Hi all, I've recently purchased 2x HD 6870 graphics cards and have a feeling my trusty Corsair HX520 is going to struggle! It has served me very well in numerous builds over the last 2-3years and will be kept in my 2nd machine.

My system will be:

AMD Phenon II x4 965
4GB DDR3 RAM
2 x Traditional Drives
1 x SSD
Corsair H70 cooler
Numerous case fans (upto 5)
2 x 6870

I might be 'swapping' the CPU + MB for a Sandy Bridge setup (2500k + decent OC board).

I do overclock, so am thinking anything from a decent manufacturer (Cosair, Antec etc) above 750W should give me enough headroom.

Value for money is a consideration and i prefer modular PSU's for cable management reasons.

Thanks for any advice or recommendations!

No reason to go over 750W for that setup, I am using crossfired 6950's that have been unlocked and my Antec True Power New handles them along with my OC'd i5-750 no problem.

There does not appear to be a lot of great deals out there at the moment, but the Antec True Power New 750W is a solid PSU and great deals come and go for it, but like Boomer mentioned, the XFX Black 750W is awesome. I have the 650W and they are Seasonic made goodness. I believe the XFX is $99 after rebate right now and would be my 750W choice for price/performance. The Corsair HX 750W is $120 AR at the moment and is excellent as well, but at $20 cheaper I'd still go with the XFX.

I went for a Corsair 850HX - I know its probably over-kill but it was only £5 more than the 750HX... also the XFX 'Black Edition' PSUs dont seem to be in supply over here in the UK, just the 'Core Edition' models.

Should arrive tomorrow, in time for a weekend building + OCing session

Well it's always good to have some headroom in your PSU for future upgrades. Maybe one day you want to get two of some more power hungry graphics cards.

Yeah thats what i thought.

It has an awesome guarantee for 7 years... So i can easily imagine me still using this PSU then!

I have been buying only the Corsair supplies lately. Seasonic is my other choice but more $ involved so...

I have a gross of Corsair units from the 550 through the 1200 (a lot of 650's, 750's and an 850). They are all rock solid units and I would recommend them absolutely. However there are plenty of other quality supplies out there.

Buying more then you need is not necessarily bad. But remember, they do have a finite lifespan. With age, their capability will decrease. So if you need 500W of room now, you might not want a 550 for example if you want it to last many years into the future. A 650, 750 or even 850 wouldn't be a bad choice. At the same time, if you only need 200W (HTPC or something), then you'd just be wasting money on something huge... Buy sensible, perhaps with a bit of room for upgrade, but don't snowball yourself at the same time.
