I have a AMD Phenom II 920, 4GB OCZ 1066 RAM, an 800 watt OCZ P/S, 300GB velociraptor HD & a Biostar TA790GX A2+ MB. I just built the computer today and everything went fine except that both in the bios and when I installed vista 64 bit it didn't recognize my new processor by name (I got the first release bios almost 5 months old.

In the included CD for the Biostar board was an online bios flash utility. I read on new egg that it was pretty easy to use and when I ran it it appeared so. A DOS box poped up, it said everything went normal, then asked me to restart.

Now it won't get anything past the bios. It actually recognizes my processor by name now in the bios (and shows that it's the up to date version) and I can hang out in the bios as long as I want without restarts, but as soon as I try to start windows it restarts without any screen or warning. It won't even let me boot from my windows disc to repair or reinstall windows.

Can anyone help me, please?

Edit: I finally got an error screen after my 10th attempt to repair/reinstall windows. Blue screen that said under technical info: Stop: 0X00000124 (0X000000000000000, 0XFFFFFA8003FC1030, 0X00000000B4002000, 0X0000000087000128)

Yes. If I try to have the HDD first and just run windows I installed earlier it gets to the microsoft corp screen then restarts without any warning. If I try to do the CD first it says loading files it completes that screen and when it goes to the microsoft copr loading screen before the install/repair screen it restarts

I would remove all hard drives except for the target C: drive. In fact, remove every non-essential thing: Drives, peripherals, USB stuff, additional displays, whatever. Then select optimized defaults in the BIOS. If that fails, try "Fail-Safe" defaults.

I have only one hard drive (no USB drives or anything), I only have the mouse & keyboard plugged in via USB & the monitor via DVI. All of those work fine in the bios screen. I tried optimized defaults and that didn't work either.

No I didn't. I read something about that online while researching wether or not I should flahs in the first place, but when I used that flahs utility online it never gave me the option to check to clear the cmos. is there any way to do that in the bios? only thing I can find is an option to reload the cmos but when I try it shows me 10 profiles with no info saved.

If i clear the cmos by the jumper on the board do you think that will fix my problem?

Yeah clear ur CMOS, pull the lil battery out, and if it still doesnt work, then i say that ur HAL.dll needs to be updated and bcoz u installed ur Windows on another platform, ur HAL.dll needs to be updated with the new configuration, thats my only advice, so in that case, try put ur HDD in an external storage device and copy ur data over to another PC and then format and reinstall ur OS once ur HDD is back in the pc. Thats my advice

I cleared the CMOS, tried it again and same exact problem, it said something a little different at first it said CMOS not set then I just loaded default settings and bam same exact problem restart either if i try to boot from HDD or from windows install disc.

I could purchase an external SATA drive but even if i format it then pop it back in my computer how will i be able to reinstall windows if it blue screens even from booting from the disc?

Want to run memtest just to rule out the possibility that somehow during the BIOS flash it over-volted your ram and killed it?

Since you're running Vista, set the BIOS to boot to CD-rom, and boot to the setup screen. Click next then click Repair computer. Should take care of it.

I figured it out, thanks a lot for the support you all. It was Biostars fault...the first release bios worked fine with Phenom II but the new release did not. The Biostar support emailed me an 'update' to a bios I flashed it via USB without even making it bootable first by just hitting F12 and it works perfect now!
