Help Please: Can only use on-board video, not 9800p

Very desperate for help. Here is the problem:

With my 9800p installed I boot up and get artifacts / gibberish on screen and then it freezes after the black Windows XP startup screen. So I took out 9800p and booted using integrated video on my motherboard. I then removed all old ATI drivers using sugested method on Rage3d website. Now when I boot up the monitor doesn't come out of standby (the light goes back and forth from green to amber, then just stays amber). I seem to get either one of these problems depending on what day it is. I use to get stop errors (usually Kernel_data_in_page_error, or IRQ_not_less_than_or_equal) so I formated and all was fine for a month or so. Until just recently when I tried my 9800p.

I have tried the following to fix:
Tried a new video card
Tried new memory
Formatted / clean install

The only way I can boot normally is if I unplug and take out my 9800p and use the integrated video on my motherboard. About 6 months ago the video card worked fine. My only other idea is that the Motherboard (AGP slot maybe?) is bad or the power supply is too small (but I doubt that).

Specs are as follows:

P4/3.0C with Intel 865GBF motherboard
512mb Kingston HyperX (also tried testing w/ PNY)
Radeon 9800pro 128mb
Antec True 350watt
WD Raptor HD

Latest BIOS/Chipsets/CAT drivers with WinXP Pro SP2

Thanks for any help, posts, suggestions. Like I said, I am desperate and really don't want to replace my motherboard if I don't have to.

Have you tried the 9800p in another machine....could be bad video card.

Haven't tried a 2nd machine, but I have tried 2 cards (both 9800pro). I guess it is possible they are both bad but I doubt it. BTW, thanks for the quick reply.

You need to go into your BIOS and disable the integrated video, then the 9800 should work fine.

Two more things:

1) (duh) make sure the 9800Pro's power cable is plugged into the power supply

2) if you have any PCI cards, please list them for me, along with what PCI slot they're in?

1) Yup, the power is plugged in and the fan is spinning.
2) No PCI cards what so ever. I have tried to isolate as much as I can.

bamacre, thanks, but there is nothing in the bios to disable the onboard video. The only video options in the bios are for AGP/PCI and Aperature size.

Chech your bios for something called Primary Video, or something similar. Set it to AGP. That way your system will recognize the AGP slot as your primary video source. This is usually used to differentiate between PCI and AGP slot cards, but it might be the case with your mobo since you have integrated video.

Yup, the AGP setting in BIOS is on AGP.
