Help setting up network cards in Mandrake 8

Hi all, I have a Celeron 300 machine running mandrake 8 linux with 2 SMC cards (one smc 1211tx and one etherpower II) and I can't get the network cards to work. The cards are listed in the KDE control panel, but when I run ifconfig -a I only get the loopback, no eth0 or eth1. I tried running linuxconf and set them up there and still nothing. How can I setup my network cards? Eventually, I would like to set them up as a router with apache/php/perl running only locally. I am developing and testing html and php scripts offsite to be later uploaded. I saw a website that generated an IPtables firewall scripts, but now I can't find it. Anyone know what I am talking about?

Ok, I am getting somewhere. I have one of the network cards working. I can't get the other one to work. The one I have working is the SMC Etherpower II card. (epic100) This card is to be hooked up to the cable modem. I am not sure if DHCP works yet cause I didn't test it. So hopefully the card will be able to an IP from the cable modem. I can't get the second card working because I don't know the module name. I thought it was rtl8139, but it says module not found. The card is an SMC 1211TX. It is compatible with the realtek 8139. Any ideas?

Ok here's what I did for the first card

insmod epic100
run linuxconf
Set it to DHCP and module to epic100

DHCPCD still not working. Can't get the ip from my cable modem.

Still can't get second network card working.

How can I find out if the rtl8139 module is installed in the machine. I believe it is, but how can I check? Do I have to download rtl8139.c and compile it as a module, then insmod that?

How can I get DHCPCD working? I run it and it does nothing.

I have read linuxnewbie.org, and others, they help a little, but they are still talking about linux redhat 6.0 which is outdated!!!

What kernel? have your tried insmod'ing rtl8139?
