Ok before I kill this thing, can someone with this board please tell me how you got the Soundblaster to work. I have a ATI Xpert98 PCI video card in slot 5 and the SB Live in slot # 3. If the video is in a slot lower then the SB the system will beep. ( video card error ). When I boot the bios reports input device (SB) IRQ NA. When I install the drivers for the SB all seems to work till I tell the system to restart. It now will show the first shut down screen then lock up. I tried to upgrade to the new drivers and they say I dont have a SB. If i remove the SB all works just fine. Please tell me the BIOS setup that any of you use so I might get this fixed.
System works fine without SB.

Thanks,

Try asking at the Via Motherboards section at AMDZone's BBS-I seem to remember this topic popping up several times

have you tried moving the sb live to another slot then? I did not have this problem with my Abit KT7 (non-raid) and sb live value + voodoo 3.

Thanks HellRaven,

Yes I also had it in slot 1 & 2. Same thing. I even tried a old ISA SVGA card, and the same thing again.

Now I just wonder if I got a bad CD driver disk. It seems to work -- I read about a guy on Sharky's BBS that had 3 SB and 1 bad CD. Now if I could only get just the driver, I could test it.

Why does my bios not give it an IRQ. I have set the usb to off and the raid controller off as well, so at least some IRQs are free.

Had exactly same problem

Apparently there is some problem with slot 3&5 but i never managed to verify that.

What i found was that the SB16 emulator conflicts with the Operating system.
First dont install the Liveware software, just put the card in the slot and manually install the drivers. Then go into Device manager and locate SB16 emulator and disable the device.
Reboot the machine and then install the software, double check that the SB16 emulator is still disabled and your problem should be sorted.

If your still locked out of the operating system, Press F8 to get the safe mode selection menu, boot into safe mode, unistall the software (Liveware) and drivers (optional) and then reboot.
Then follow the above process.

Good Luck

PS dont bother asking Creative tech support, ive found better help on this board than anything they had to say, utterly useless IMHO

Well I did all of the above and checked on many help sites and did that stuff too. Still no joy

I am going to get a SB Live value and try that, if that works them its the card.

It WORKS!!!

I put win98[OEM] (not SE )on system and it work after I added the drivers myself.
I can here mp3 and cd. I just cant get it to record yet.
Funny, some programes (LAVA..) say ' Creative SB Live! not detected '
Some apps work fine, others will not load. When I try to add the new drivers they say no sondcard.

Now when I boot my BIOS still say IRQ NA, but after the win98 boot screen then I see the screen says IRQ is set for soundblaster.

Ever see this??

Thanks for all your help.

NMTinHK,
Thanks, Well yes and no. In Win95 I had to. But in Win98 It was set ok with no conflict.
I am going to try a fresh install with one card at a time. ( Yes I did this before just not with Win98 )

Do I need to assign an IRQ to the PCI slot.
How will I do this.
I know this is in Bios, I guess in the PnP area and the part that ask about legacy cards.

Funny, I know a lot about Computers. Just not this MB.
Now I understand how alot of people feel when they cant get their system to work.

Thanks in advance

Ahhh

it has nothing to do with a conflict, or IRQ shared address.
I believe its SB16 emulator is a dos driver that simply has some issues with life and wont let the software run.

Do me a favour just disable the device and follow my above post and see if it works.

Cheers

NMTinHK,

Ok I did what you said. It works better. The old LAVA works the new still says no SB. But I did get it to run from the CD player. All this work of a soso APP.

I still cant get the mixer to work. ANd I cant record from the Microphone. But that will come in time I hope.

I had hoped to play my tapes in and save them as wav to burn to CD. Hell I can even do mp3 as my house DVD can play them. Its great to have 180+ songs on a cd.

Well thanks for all your help.

If there is anything else you can think of please post.. thanks again
