i have new p5b deluxe board, e6300, 2 gigs ocz ddr2 800, raptor drive and old 4mb pci video while new card comes, antec p180 with 3 120 mm fans, xinifity 500W psu and artic freezer pro 7 hsf. i hooked it all up and installed xp. i then changed options to this: http://xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=115217. all my options were the same as that except FSB and i tried 2.3v dram since OCZ says it can take higher voltages.

i was in windows at 459 fsb when the computer just shut down. ok that's happened before with many computers i have overclocked. so i restart and it will not go into BIOS. ok so i'll do what i did back in the day and removed battery/plug and cleared CMOS. i boot up and nothing happens. screen is black. HD spins and all my fans spin. HSF is on tight. i remove all peripherals, remove ram and try to boot. nothing happens. I replace ram and even try different slots a couple times. Nothing works. Nothing will come up on the screen. Fans and HD spin, but nothing else seems to spin. I remove the HSF and look at the chip and see no signs of damage. I then replace the HSF with stock intel one since I bent one mouting pin taking it off. Same result. Nothing on screen. With all the computers I've dealt with, this has never happened after trying so much stuff.

What is wrong? is my mobo dead? chip fried? ram dead? help!

i just noticed also my DVD drive will not eject when i hit the power switch. what is going on?

I consider a new computer to be most suspect at times. Test the PS with a tester, if good, then remove the MB, place it on a nonconductive surface, install the CPU w/hsf, video card and one stick of ram. Plug into the PS and monitor, cross the power pins on the MB and see if it will display the bios screen. If not, swap out the video card with a known good one, and if possible, connect to a different monitor and try again. If the problem persists, swap ram sticks, if no change you have eliminated everything except the MB.

ok so i found an antec 350 psu and hooked it up. nothing pops up. tried different monitors. no go. so i checked my pci card on another computer and it works. now i am leaving the battery out for 30 mins to see if that helps.

i dont have another batch of RAM to try out. i took the HSF off and looked at the processor again and don't see any burn/brown spots. took a close look at the motherboard once i removed it and saw nothing obviously wrong with it. the system was up and running before it just crashed and died.

what do you guys think now? mobo just died? RAM died even though it's rated for increased voltage? CPU died? my only other option if bettery removal doesn't work is to go to electronics store and buy new parts to figure it out.

could be mobo is fried - if there was a weakness someplace and the overclocking or running higher volts to the ram might have finished it.

The reason why the drive doesn't open when it is on now is sometimes caused by the mobo, if the mobo is acting up or the bios doesn't activate or whatever it can lock the drive shut.

Try turning on with ONLY the RAM, CPU, and graphics card. No HDs, no optical drives, no extra PCI cards. Just the bear minimum. See if it POSTs or not.

yes i did.

i went to frys and picked up another p5b board (i just realized it's not wifi which is what i wanted) and it boots up.

so my motherboard died within 30 mins of it being up and running. Is this probably due to manufacturer defect or power surge or PSU?

argh now i have to wait another 1-2 weeks to get a new unit back.

No, actually you murdered it with the overclock.
