1.33GHz 266FSB Athlon
IWILL KK266 or MSI K7Master
256MB Crucial PC133(CL2) or PC2100(CL2.5)

If you're going to wait a month or two:

1.53GHz Athlon 4
(Athlon 4 compatible DDR motherboard)
256MB Crucial PC2100(CL2.5)

Forget the AMD products and wait till the Northwood comes out and build the system there.

This may seem like silly questions, but:
What Experience do you have building (or working on computers in general)
What are you currently running?

While I'm personally in favor of AMD processors, do recall that it's easier to tear one up

I'd go with an Athlon 4 when they come out. Maybe wait for Northwood, but I wouldn't just for the fact that, like all Intel products, it will be expensive compared to the Athlon. I also doubt how much performance they can get out of it. The Thunderbird is already faster than the P4 and with the around 5-15% of the Palomino core (Athlon 4), the Palomino and Northwood should be about the same in performance, but the AMD will be cheaper.

I am also looking to build a PC system; although I am not quite sure what is the correct combination for the CPU, mother board, video card, etc. I think I am going to go for a AMD Thunderbird 900 Mhz CPU with 256 MB PC133 RAM.

Any suggestions / recommendations on:

1. Mother boards.
2. Cooling Fans.
3. Video Cards.
4. Sound Cards.
5. PC Cases.

Also, what is a good place (cheap) to buy them??

Northwood? So intel can abandon you once again...just like they did with people with the coppermine by releasing tualatin...and the willamette by releasing the northwood... what's worse is the p4 just came out...sucks for the early upgraders.

you guys, serial ata is 2 years off. These 20gb density hdd's will be the thing for 6 month, then come 30g platters...so on so forth. Ata 100 will be fine until we hit 50-60gb platter density

Forget the 900mhz Athlon and get a 1gig athlon 266. If its an axia or avia you should be able to overclock it to atleast 1.3 ghz and the difference in price isn't all that great. Furthermore, the 900s don't seem to overclock well. Mine will only do 1050 mhz.
