Well, this is my hopefully last version of my future comp setup. Honestly, searching for parts through reviews and comparing prices is becoming a pain. I hope this setup works. By the way, I went to compUSA and the PC Club store next to it to check prices out. The only thing cheaper than NewEgg was the turtle beach sound card on sale. So, here goes (cross my fingers)...

Also, the college I'm going to uses an ethernet; will what the MB has work? I'm assuming it does.

Case: Antec Performance Plus 1080 135.00/14.00
MB: Gigabyte GA-7VRXP 110.00/10.00
Memmory: Corsair PC2700 512MB CAS 2.0 186.00/6.00
CPU: AMD 2000+ 153.00/6.95
Fan: GC68 w/ Arctic Silver 3 and YS-Tech Fan(Package) 6.99+4.99+5.00
Hard Drive: Western Digital WD1200JB 196.00/7.00
Video Card: ATI Radeon 8500 128MB 215.00/10.00
Sound Card: Turtle Beach Santa Cruz 58.00/6.00
Floppy: Sony Disk Drive 9.00/5.00
CD-RW: LiteOn 40x12x48 83.00/7.00

I forgot to say something. When I went to CompUSA, I was with my father and he told the helper that this was the first comp I was going to build. The guy jumped on it after I told him the specs and he said I would burn out the processor, statically fry all my components, and end up with junk. :Q The only way I could prevent this he said was to go with a P4 and Asus MB. Is it as hard as he said to build a comp. I would prefer not to screw this up.

no it isn't, the Athlon in my sig was my first build. It's all pretty simple apart from clipping the HS on the CPU... AMD has to have the worst possible mechanism, but it's very doable as long as you're careful. I changed the retail HS to a PAL8045 and that went much smoother than installing the retail HS.

The rest of the assembly is just plugging one thing into another

I think that guy must suck at building computers if he is speaking from experience, or else he gets bonuses for selling asus and intel.....

I dont think you are going to have a problem. Its nerve racking the first time, but not hard. If you have a friend or anyone you know that has done it before, it may be best to have them spot or even help put it together for the first time, and then after that I think you will be fine.

Just dont be too careful and then think that stuff isnt fitting, etc... sometimes it takes force to get RAM into slots, to get hard drives to slide into bays, PCI cards in slots.... a heatsink to clip on... take caution, but dont be timid, thes parts (most of them) are built to endure, and arent going to break unless they are under very very high stress.

HAHA, that's part of why I shop online, avoid the idiots. Assuming you install (and connect) the HSF before turning it on you won't fry anything.
Anyway my first complete build was a Tbird 900 no real problems, though I did bend a few pins on the CPU that I had to straighten.
Looks good to me, though I'm not up to date on Athlon mobos.

That looks like a great setup, extremely similar to what I am planning to build for a friend, except I'm going with the epox kt333 motherboard and a gainward gf4 4400 over a radeon card... to me the extra $30 is worth the speed and ease of overclocking it to 4600 speeds.

I also suggest you buy a monitor in person, a bad monitor can make an awesome rig disappointing.

Another thing is you don't HAVE to buy your mouse and keyboard online, why pay shipping for those as long as you have a best buy or something similar nearby.
