Help w/ Microsoft Desktop Elite

I have just purchased the Microsoft Desktop Elite today, and I am running with a little bit troubles.

I connect the receiver to the computer with both ps/2 for keyboard and the mouse. But I cannot do (or type) anything when I get to the windows xp login page.
So I shuted down my computer, and connect my old wired keyboard while leaving the ps/2 connector (from the receiver) plugged, and restart the computer. Then everything works fine (I can type with my wired keyboard, login to windows xp, blah blah blah). I can also swap the wired keyboard with the wireless one by unplugging the ps/2 cable, and plug in with the ps/2 from the wireless receiver.

But it is just dumb to keep swapping everytime I restart the comptuer.
Any help on this issue, so that I don't have to keep plugging and unplugging the cable everytime?

You need to plug in the USB connector. You can use the PS/2 connector, but you don't have to. The keyboard and mouse can both run off of the USB connector, but you need to plug in the USB connector or it won't see the wireless receiver properly.

But if I shut off the comptuer, and connect the usb recevier then turn on the computer again, same thing would happen: I can't type anything when the login page is loaded in windows xp

When the login page is up, unplug the USB and then plug it back in. It should plug-and-play and then you will be able to type. That's what I've always had to do with mine.

Do you have to do it everytime you start up the computer?

No, just the first time you install the keyboard. After that you should be fine.

Is it possible to use the ps/2 connection
so that i would be able to use the keyboard under dos and such

As long as your motherboard isn't ancient it should have an option for USB legacy support which means it will be supported within your BIOS as well as in DOS, I think.

Yup...otherwise yes you can use the PS/2 at the same time.
