Help w/ Ram Decision

For Christmas if I get some new RAM Im going to sell ym current RAM (OCZ Premeire 1GB kit) as for they suck for overclocking. I dont know weather to get some EL Platnium or Gold. ANd also I dont know what "size" to get them. 1 GB kit or a 2GB kit. I know if I went with 2GB I would be more futureset(maybe). So basically Im asking either to go gold or plat with 1 or 2 GB kit.


Totally off topic: Does Dell have a Boxing Day sale on Screens?Mostly on the 2005FPW?

donno about the screens. As for the RAM size, depending on how mcuh future-proofing you want to do and how much gaming you'll do, I'd almost definitely go with 2x1GB. I'm looking at either getting Mushkin XP4000's myself, or some OCZ EL Platinum, depending on how competitive pricing gets. Depends on how much you want to spend though. you can find some pretty good $250-range kits out there, with some slightly worse timings, and no guarentee of DDR500 speeds. If you have the extra money, go with the more expensive stuff. If not, get some valueRAM. You want 2 DIMMs for dual channel definitely. You also want 2GB if you do gaming. Other than that, all I can say with definitiveness (if that's a word) is go with what fits your price range. And as far as going with the ABSOLUTE BEST out there (directed more to the mad FX-57'ers), unless you got money to burn, go with stuff that's got 80-95% the performance for about 40-60% the price.

NOTE: this is from my research done towards getting my socket-939 kit. If you have a different socket type, the specifics I stated earlier can be mostly disregarded. I'd still reccomend you go with fits your pricerange best.

I can get EL Plat Rev2 1GB kit for 239$ CDN(~200US) from a local store or 210$ from NCIX.com and I can get the 2GB kit for 331$off NCIX. Well I dont really know my budget because its a XMas gift and I dont know how much my parents are spending on me.
