I really don't want to get into watercooling or even touch liquid nitrogen cooling. I was just wondering what the best setup would be to cool the cpu with a heatsink and fan. What works the best and are there any alternatives to watercooling that are cheap? Watercooling just seems like so much work to get only a little more boost. Plus i want to be able to pick up my computer and go to my dorm or back home any time. Any suggestions and review sites would be much appreciated. Thanks

I also wanted to know what the best fan speed controllers are. Dont want to spend too much either.

And also what are the best video cards for digital video editing and games? My friend recommended an FX by Nvidia. Any suggestions?

I NEED THIS STUFF ASAP SO YOUR HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED, THANKS!!

I second the SLK 800/900. The 900 is REALLY big (can use 92mm fan), and some boards have capacitors preventing its use, so check around with other 8RDA+ users before buying anything. As far as I know, those are still the best performers.

How much do you care about noise? One of the advantages to using a monster heatsink is that it enables you to use a larger, low-speed 80 or even 92mm fan.

If you get something like an SLK800/900, you can use a low speed fan and get great cooling, even when overclocking.

If you don't give a darn about noise, you can put a 92mm Tornado fan (it's like 6,000RPM!) on it and overclock to hell and back and have the best cooling short of water.

*shrug*It's all about what you want.

slk800 - you can fit a 92mm panflow on there if you bend the clips a bit, providing more air flow and a quieter fan

why would i want the 800 over the 900? i read in a review that the 900 fits perfectly onto the 8RDA+

Stock air cooling. Unless I'm missing something important like "You live on the Equator" then there is absolutely no reason why you couldn't run your computer on default cooling. Think about it for 10 seconds. Everyone around you buys from companies like Dell and Compaq (99% of computers are bought from major companies). None of these companies think you need extra/special cooling. None of their systems overheat or have any kind of heat issue if you don't abuse them or put them under ridiculous conditions. Now, using your critical thinking skills deduce that you probably don't need watercooling or any other special cooling.

Also, you friend is a patzer. He's recommending a card that 1) is slower in games 2) is MUCH WORSE for editing. Maybe you could consider an FX 5900 when they come out and if they bench well...but that day is a while away if it comes at all (which it just might not considering ATI's new offer). Oh, i almost forgot...they're more expensive!! I really would like to know based on what is your friend recommending an FX...

Hrm. Stock air coolers can be loud sometimes, my main gripe with them. The SLK800 or whatnot with a lower speed, higher airflow, quieter, bigger fan (60mm vs 92mm) can probably turn down the noise notch a bit, as well as keeping the proccessor a bit cooler, just for safe keeping Not too worried about overheating, since I won't be overclocking or whatnot.

at least that's why i'm going to get a slk-800 paired with a different fan, granted it is a bit more cash to spend, but for quiet, I'll pay for it.

How much $$ does the SLK800/900 usually go for? I have a couple 3 pin inline POT's that I use on my CPU fans, but I'm assuming these 80/92mm fans are 4 pin molex?

BigxGuy7 - that guy was trying to recommend a radeon 9700 pro or a 9800 pro. Get either and you will be happier than you could be with an FX or gf4!

the heatsink.. id go for the thermalright slk-900u. i have it right now, it used to be on my 8rda+, then went on to my nf7-s, and now it resides on my ic7-g. a good fan, depending on noise, vantec tornado, ys tmd fan 70mm. graphics card under $150, ti4200, maybe an ati 9500 or even 9600, but you may want to double check those, as they may be just a little bit over $150.

another good heatsink that i know fits on the 8rda+ is the Swiftech MCX462+. i've used this one also, good stuff.

OK first of all. Dell overheats all the time. I have seen it and i have worked on it. Compaq has garbage heatsinks and fans too. So to your reply I say you are wrong. Here is the explanation.

Electronics run way better when you keep them cool. It is a known fact that electrons flow way better across the gate at lower temperatures. It is a fact. Also, The cooling aids in cooling other devices such as the motherboard.... Think about it...

Dude, go buy a slk 800 with the variable speed ys tech fan and you will be so happy with your purchase you will slap yo momma.... LOL

I would. I just bought a barton 2500 and a sk7 with a ys tech fan and I should be recieving it in a couple of days. Buy your processor from newegg and get the retail version for the warranty it is only a dollar more today and then go to www.svcompucycle.com and order your slk800 with a 80 mm fan. You will love it....

I hate to break it to you but saying I'm wrong doesn't make me wrong. If dells and compaqs overheated all the time they would get sued. Even if these lawsuits don't win, it would cost them more to defend themselves then to put in a slightly more expensive fan into all of their systems. You claim makes no sense if you use some common sense...

As far as video card, the difference between the gf4 ti's is negligible. If you care at all about price, get a 4200.
