Hi,

I'm trying to search for a good PCI board to run my second monitor on Win98se (running now with an aging 2mb ATI Rage). I'm using GF1 DDR to run my primary monitor which is enough for my needs.

Good PCI board seems to be really hard to find at a reasonable price (Radeon SDR PCI seems to be out of range). The resolution on a second monitor that I'd like to run is 1024x768 at 85mhz

I'm aiming toward ATI Expert 98 8mb since I think it should be good enough to run the res' I planned to.

For all you geeks that have experience on running dual monitor, please enlighten me. Any suggestion on a good PCI board (I set a budget around $50-60).

Any comments are very welcome.

Thank you.

I had tried Mystique 4mb before but it didn't work (it was also reported at Matrox Forum). That's why I'm still stucked with 2mb Rage

Looking for something better than 2mb Rage so that I can run 1024x748 at 85mhz or above (19" Compaq).

Any other choices you can think of?

Thanks a lot.

I used a 4MB SiS chipset card, worked nicely. I can't remember the exact model now but it was very cheap.

Matrox G200 dual monitor - used to be expensive, but should be cheap now due to obselecence... they have a quad version too.

I've used a Mystique, Voodoo 3 PCI, and various Trident cards successfully. The V3 is the easiest to configure and work with, and has the most flexibility- not suprising in a newer card.

I've also heard good things about PCI Geforce MX cards as secondary cards, but haven't used one myself.

Yeah, if you can stretch to it the PCI ELSA Gladiac MX 511 has twinview (dual analogue monitor ports) plus TV-Out. It also uses some kind of AGP emulating technology, not sure how great it is though.

That'll easily handle the resolution you are looking at plus give you reasonable performence to boot.

I think Thecorm is right on this one...I've heard good things about the Elsa MX 511; you should also look around at pricing on the Matrox G200.

Thanks for all your help guys. I am actually looking for a regular 1 output PCI board to go along with my aging GF1 DDR.
Don't wanna thrash GF since it still do the work I need.

Now, I'm aiming toward V3 2000 or 3000 PCI since the price seems right on my budget (Used ones on eBay are going off really cheap).

Anyone running dual monitor using Voodoo3 PCI? how's the image quality?

Thanks again.

another recommendation for v3 2000 pci. They go for ~40 on fs/ft. And if you ever need to, you can even play CS smoothly on it

BTW,the V3's have SUPERB image qual

I've used Matrox Millenium and Millenium II PCIs, never had a problem and they are cheap now.

Currently using a Voodoo2 for my second monitor using the beta W2K V2 2D drivers, works great!
