Help! Windows 10 Upgrade Froze my laptop! Now what ?

My Toshiba laptop has FROZEN right in the middle of doing the Windows 10 Upgrade!

Did Microsoft just brick my laptop ? Will they buy me a new one ?

My laptop is a little over a year old and I've never had any issues with it what-so-ever. It "was" running Windows 8.1 with all the current updates. It has (6) GB Ram so insufficient Ram is a none issue.

I'm a very experience PC user. Not an expert by any means, but I've built, upgraded and repaired my share of PCs and peripherals over the years.

Now what ??

Hopefully you did a file/system backup prior to starting.
When you reboot what happens? If the upgrade doesn't work there should be a roll-back mechanism that will allow you to go back to 8.1. If that isn't an option you may need to try and access the system refresh or system restore options.

Unless you deleted the factory image partition, you should have no problem going back to 8.1, worst case. But would love to see the answers to MustISOs questions first.

Heard lots of problems similar to that. Its a worst case scenario for you. Try to talk to a technician and ask about it.

Of course.

A simple reboot brought the original image back in the same state it was.

Now, what would cause Windows 10 to freeze (at 32%) during the Install portion ???

Nope. As they say, never buy (or do) the first model year.

8.1 to 10 should be a piece of cake.

Check and see if any hardware or drivers are not W10 compatible, though I can't imagine what would run on 8.1 and not on 10.

Revert back to Windows 8.1 and try the upgrade again, if the problem persists, you can either find a way to fix the problem or stick with your current Windows.

How did you do the upgrade? Did you just run the upgrade tool, or did you download the upgrade files first, create an ISO, and run it within your existing windows?
