i've got IIS configured to the point where at least http://localhost/ works, but nobody outside my home network can get to the web server. I'm using 2 linksys routers, the gateway has DHCP turned on, and the inside router has DHCP turned off. the web server is behind the inside router. I've tried port forwarding on both routers, and each individually. Next step i guess will be to try to put the server on the gateway, but i'm wondering if its a router issue or a configuration issue. I'm very green to 2003, but consider myself a power user on xp pro. any ideas as to what i'm doing wrong?

Logic would say; try the Server on the Modem and see if it works.

If it does then you have a port forwarding issue, if it does not work directly on the Modem then your Server configuration is "bad".

My question would be are you actually using the second device to route? In other words, are you using the WAN port. And if so why? Sounds like you have at least half of it right by disabling the DHCP server. If your bypassing the WAN port as well, which you should, then you don't really have a router there. You have a switch. If that is the case then I agree with Jack. Connect the Server directly to the WAN connection, the broadband modem. If it works, then hook it directly into the first router's switch. Forward port 80 requests to your servers IP. If that then works then go back to the other configuration, as long as the second device is a switch only. If you are just wanting to route inside your own LAN then that presents a problem a cheap SOHO two router LAN might not be able to overcome. Not sure if a RIP budget router will forward that request and they probably wouldn't even be on the same subnet anyway. Anyway, just use the second router as a switch only.

Troubleshooting is process of elimination by and large. Takes Jack's advice and move backwards from the modem.
