Help with 6800GT

I have a bfg 6800gt oc. It is on my new computer with an msi neo2 plat. On 3dmark05 i got close to 2800 on my old system with this card (1900+). Now on this system i am getting only 2000. Also as the test goes along, it freezes for few seconds, then starts up again. Whats the problem?

msi neo2 plat bios 1.3
ocz plat rev 2 (1 gig)
ocz powersupply 520 watts
samsung sata hd

Have not tried that, let me run it and see. What score should i be getting on 03 with this setup?

I wouldnt worry about the score right now...id be more concerned with everything working right first.

What drivers are you using?

I downloaded the most current drivers from nvidia.com. My temps on the geforce are core: 57c idle and ambient: 43c

The card did not stutter while in my old computer (1900+). I did replace the stock cooler on the card with a water block. Is it possible that the ram heat sinks that i put on it are not dissapating enough heat?

Try turning off fastwrites in the BIOS.

something has to be wrong... you should be getting around 4500+ with 6800gt

I ran the 03 test but aborted, because it was freezing up so much it wasnt hardly able to run the tests. I think i need to check the heat sinks on the ram, this is not cool.

Those temps are about right I believe for that card. Try what MDE suggested.

Ok first thing id do is make sure the card is seated properly and the power connector is also seated properly, secondly if the temps are ok then id swap the ram out or pull one piece out and see if that is the cause.

Thanks so much. Like i said i have this system water cooled, so i plan on overclocking to 2.4-2.6 range (week 44 3200+ *crosses fingers*). Once i gete everything settled ill post my results on the boards here. Thanks again.

My GT idles at around 63C going to around 83C under load. But if your on water they seem too high I have the stock cooler and have almost the same temps. Are you Oced any. When I try to OC my GT to Ultra games and benchmarks are jumpy for me.

Well since it is the OC version, it is overclocked by 20MHz from the factory. Also, there is practically no air flow within the case, have both sides off, no front intakes, and just 2 outtakes. Once i seal it up and hook up the two front intakes, it should lower that ambient i think. Im getting these temp reading from the nividia option menu (right click on desktop->properties) not sure if those are accurate or if there is a better program to monitor gpu temps.

Looking at ur post again, i see yours idles around 63, mine is 56 so 7 degrees cooler with the water, probably even cooler under load. Not sure how to obtain "load" readings since i cant exit out of futuremark to look at the temps. Is there a way to do this?

My eVGA 6800GT idles @ 49C and 63C under load w/ a NV Silencer cooling solution + AS5 paste.
With GT's you need to turn off FW(Fast Writes) in BIOS on the MSI K8N Neo2.I also got into the advanced BIOS settings to turn off sidebanding as well.To do this you need to have the Cell menu highlighted and press SHIFT+F2 and then ALT+F3 (your highlight will jump to first section again) Now reselect Cell menu and then when you open up the Cell menu you will aditional options ot choose from.
Also disable the ATi/NV speedup crap.
