help with 700m speakers

I have a dell 700m laptop, recently the laptop speakers have stopped working. However i get sound if i connect external speakers or headphones. Which makes me come to the conclusion that the speakers have failed. i took my LCD screen apart to reach the speakers to see if the wires were OK. they seemed ok to me, no breaks and soldered correctly.
Does anyone know where i can get a spare set? also can anyone point me to where i can get my hands on the dell resource cd? i seem to have misplaced mine. Thnx

I think ebay is probably the cheapest way to get replacement parts. You can find Dell drivers at their website.

It is highly unlikely that you'll find replacement speakers for you 700. I've been looking for about 8 months now. Nothing. Parts-people generally has anything you could want for dell's but they haven't had anything in a long time. If it is under warranty make Dell replace the LCD. That is their fix for the speakers as they don't sell the speakers separately.

It is most likely that it is the speaker wires themselves. It is a very common problem on 700/700m's. The motherboard cuts on the wires every time you open and close the lcd lid. When mine first started going bad they would work when the lcd was almost closed. Eventually they both stopped working. One of the wires showed a visible break but the other didn't. It is possible that yours are broken and not showing wear, yet. I had to tear open the speakers themselves and resolder new wires to them. While I was in there I added some heatshrink tubing to the wires to reinforce them.

Good luck finding speakers. If you happen to find a stash, please post and let people know where you got them.

Another 700m with dead speakers here. Exact same thing happened to me.

I don't have a warranty so I may have to go the route you did and tear the thing open.
