Help with 980Ti Temps

Guys how are you?

I have a serious question now

I'm with 2 980ti HOF LN2 GOC sli here and without oc I get 1415 turbo boost

But my temps are really high at full load gaming, a heavy game always reach the thermal limit, 83 or 91, always reach when the card uses 100%, I'm on air, and the fans are at 100% speed!!!! but I would like to lower this temps, the thermal paste at the cards are the gelid extreme, I reaplied both and same results, my case is a Cosmos 2 and the cards have 80cm between the top one and the bottom one, in this case the space for a 3 way sli

Is there something I can do or I'll have to stay with this high temps since my fans profiles are already at 100%?

Thaks guys

Have no money and I think I won't have space for water at my rig, just would like to improve something at the temps with sli

If you have that much space between them already, the best you can do is either get an aftermarket cooling solution that is superior to what you have or simply direct cool air at that general area somehow.

How is the flow of air through the case? Maybe you can improve that?

Yeah, definitely this. I'm sure the sandwiching of the card doesn't help either.

My dinky stock cooler can keep my 980 Ti @ 100% load ~1414 boost 65C.

Even when I had two 290X sandwiched in CFX OC'ed to overdrive max with fan 100% they sat around 70-80C.

Can you recommend 2 best 120mm fans to the side panel and one best 200mm fan to the front? Think that can help

Multi-GPU you can forget about overclocking because the top card will always heat up. Also you are better off with dual slot coolers than 2.5 or triple slot coolers.

Also with air coolers if you want a silent fan profile, the best you can hope for is to remain around 80-85C on the top card and hold max reference clocks.

Thirdly, reduce power limit to 100% and watch your temps drop 3-4C.

Fourthly, your fans dump heat into the case. Either open the side window or remove glass window and you should see your temps drop ~5C.

As far as water goes it's great for temps, not so great for noise. The damn pumps will make your entire case resonate if you have a ~20-25lb case. Maybe if you get a big 50-60lb tower case it won't shake as much.

I've never had a problem but I have primarily used Laing DDCs and they don't really vibrate as they're perfectly balanced. Plus, it's easy to find a stand for them that is isolated with rubber grommets. My rig in my sig is silent except on first boot when the fans are at max or when the CPU gets over 50C they whir up a smidge.

Have the same case (Cosmos 2), my 980TI reaches 73 degrees max but with AC on it only reaches 68. It's a great case when properly set up (fans orientation)

The problem is with SLI

Gikaseixas is correct on setup.

First, do you have an air intake fan in the front and exhaust fan in the rear? If so how big and are they blocked by objects such as cables etc?

Second. Take the side panel off your case and game heavy and record your temps.

alcoholbob has some good points. Your video cards are $999 each with 3 fans per card dumping all that heat into the case with a 980TI OC'd stock to 1203 core. I think reference is 1000 core so you already have heavily OC'd cards.

With multicard setups in highend cards (yours are REAL high end!) you either put up with higher temps or more fans or a combo.

I suspect what is happening is the fans on the video cards are working but are dumping all the heat into the case and you either don't have enough cool air coming in AND being exhausted to correct it.

Again, try running your system without the side cover to see how much that helps. Cooler air coming in is important but you have 6 fans cranking in that case exhausting out the air into the case. That air has to be pushed out of the case. BTW what cpu cooler are you using? Is it pushing a lot of heat into the case?

Do you have fans on the inside top of the case pulling air out the top?

Water. My 980 Ti max temp is 40C at 1500MHz.

With him putting $999 into each video card I doubt water is an answer now.

Since I like custom water cooling and have seen it's benefit in cooling, especially with multiple gpus, yes I agree, water is a great solution.

Unfortunately, for this OP he has already invested nearly $2,000 in video cards so I'm sure water is out of the question. We have to work within his parameters of these 2 cards and his CM Cosmos2 case.

Intake and exhaust fan setup is critical here since he has 2 heavily OC'd 980TIs dumping all of that heat into the case.

wsarahan, I looked at the specs and drawings for your case and looked at those gpus you bought, (BEAUTIFUL, powerful but 6 fans total) and I think the first thing I would do is mount 2 120mm fans on the side panel upper portion, exhausting out. It appears the air should be pushed though the channel exhausting up the side to the top. Hopefully these 2 120 mm fans will pull the excess heat out of the case.

I had that same case for a year or so. Not really functional for water cooling, the top is too close to the MB for a thick radiator.
