Help with a compressed hard drive

I am trying to help out a friend. They have a 500meg hard drive that has been compressed. They have at least 2 different virus on the drive. While working on cleaning it up the system locked up on me. I want to reformat the thing but need to try and save some information from it first. I tried hooking it up to my system (Fully updated virus protection and recent backups made) but I could only read the driveD host for C drive. It was picking up the host and reading my C as the main, not the compressed drive. Anyone know of a way to help or any sites I can find info? I didn't promise I would save the data, just that I would try.

It's been a really long time since I did anything with compressed drives, but I believe you do have to MOUNT the compressed drive, it's not just automatically detected and loaded.

You'd use DriveSpace or DoubleSpace or Stacker or whatever was used to compress it to mount the drive. And I doubt that if it was compressed with Stacker that you'll be able to use DriveSpace to read it.
