Hello,

I received a computer from a friend and it was connected to his work domain. I have his username and password. It has windows 2000 professional. I want to delete the domain and do an automatic logon. I have gone into the registry.exe and tried to do a forcelogon and such as I have read on the internet. It worked once but th at was it.

What I would like to do is remove his work domain? Or if not possible find an easier way to do an automatic logon and bypass his domain logon. I can't disable the security feature where you have to do ctrl alt del to logon.

Thanks for any help.

Once your remove it from the domain you will not be able to log on using those username and password. Make sure you make a local admin account first and then delete it from the domain.

not sure how to remove it when the domain is not available. Google it or wait for others to help

The domain doesn't need to be available to remove it from the domain. You just need a local admin account.

As others suggested, first create a Local Admin account. Login in with it to build the profile. Its been a while since I've used Windows 2000 with any regularity and the following instructions are for WinXP but if I remember correctly they should be very similar. Right-hand click on My Computer, select Properties. Select Computer Name tab, click Change, tick the Workgroup button, create a Workgroup name and a new computer name. Reboot and log back in with your Local Admin account that you created. Create another more restricted account and use that account, use the Local Admin account to do administrative tasks.

Login with his cached credentials.

Right Click MY Computer and choose MANAGE
Go to Local Users & Groups
Go to USERS
Create a new local user account and assign it to the Administrative group.
Reboot.
Login against the local machine with the new local admin account you created, you would do this by changing the DOMAIN to This Computer (xxxxxxxxx) from whatever domain is currently displayed.
Once logged on leave the domain by joining a workgroup as described above. Right CLick My Computer choose Properties > Computer Name and join a workgroup.
Reboot.
Now you should be able to turn off the security features you want like forced Ctrl+Alt+Del and enabling auto-logon.

Good luck.
