I am ready to blow my hard earned money on a laptop, I've narrowed it down between 2 systems:
IBM T20 (refurbished via www.egghead.com)
750MHz Intel® Pentium® III Processor
128MB SDRAM Memory
20GB Hard Drive
6X DVD-ROM
56K Modem
14.1" TFT Active Matrix Display
S3 Savage IX8 Graphics
8MB SGRAM Video Memory
16-Bit Audio
Titanium Composite Cover
Li-Ion Battery
Microsoft® Windows® 2000

***or***
Dell Latitude C600 P3 750mhz (also refurbished through Dell)
Memory: 128MB SDRAM (1 DIMM)
Hard Disk Drive: 10 GB EIDE Hard Drive (4200 RPM)
NoteBook Screen: 14.1 Inch XGA TFT Notebook Screen
Modem: Internal 3COM Mini-PCI NIC/Modem Combo
DVD Drive: 8X DVD-ROM Drive (modular)
Software: DVD Software
Software
Microsoft Windows® 2000
Software
8 Cell Lithium-Ion Battery

I think the weight is approximately the same, although I read in a ZDnet review the Dell is a bit bulky.
Thank you!

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention, they are both around the same price, $1,800-1,900. And they both come with a one year warranty from IBM for the T20 and Dell for the C600. Dell graphics specs are:
Easy-to-see 14.1" XGA active matrix (TFT) display
Maximum resolution6 of 1024x768 pixels, 4.2 billion colors (support up to 1600x1200 pixels with external monitor , 4.2 billion colors)
ATI Mobility RAGE 128, 128 bit hardware-accelerated 2x AGP
8 MB SGRAM Integrated video memory

Also, would the infrared port mean i can print to my HP 6P without using a printer cable?

Thanks!

I just got a Dell Inspiron 8000, it's so sweet. 800 MHz p3, i815 chipset, 256 megs ram, 20 gig HD, ATI M4 32meg 4xAGP, 14.1 super XGA TFT, fixed dvd, modular cdrw, internal 10/100 nic & 56k/ v90 win modem, IEEE1394, S/comp vid out, digital audio out, & the other standard ports ect. Ok Ok, sorry about that, i guess what i'm trying to say i really like my Dell. It did run me $3,100.00 though. I haven't seen or used an IBM, good luck with your choice, I think you will enjoy whichever you get -John

The ThinkPad T20 is supposed to be an awesome machine, although I haven't used one myself.

IBM support is legendary. And their laptops are built to last. I have a 4 year old ThinkPad 760XL that still is in perfect shape (I use it every day), and a 7 year old ThinkPad 700C PS/2 that has taken a hell of a beating and still works great.

The Dell has a better graphics chip, but I'd still reccommend the IBM. I have an A21p and I love it, the thing is built like a tank (better be, I'm not getting rid of it for at least 4 years). Interesting tidbit, the FBI ordered a bunch of T20 notebooks for use in training and on bases. Nothing like telling your buddies that you have the same computer as FBI field agents. I'm pretty certain that overall the IBM will be a nicer machine, and I forget who said it, but someone was right on about IBM's support. (Didn't log in before posting, so I can't see the original page to check who said it.) Support from IBM is amazing, I have been greatly impressed. Get the IBM, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for you help. I was looking around Dell's refurbished site and ended up purchasing a Dell Inspiron 4000.
Specs:
P III 800mhz
128 mb ram (1 x128)
8x DVD
14.1 XGA TFT display
10 GB HD
27 whr battery
Internal 56k modem & NIC
"Free" nylon case & shipping
This came out to $1800.00 including an additional 2 year warranty.

The Dell rep said the refurbished products are from companies that overbought or customers that returned it within 30 days. I thought it was from defective products that were repaired by Dell. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks again everyone!
