OK I'm about to buy a monitor. Not really familiar with all the new things so I'll be short. Monitor for movies and gaming.. for about 300-350$. What can you recommend. Which one is better - 120 Hz + or IPS monitor. What would you recommend? I know I don't give much but pretty much this is what I'm gonna do. No video rendering no ACAD 3D drawing. Looking for something like 24-27" .
Thank you in advance! I hope this is the right section btw..

P.s. Video card is EVGA GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card

What kind of games do you play? It's pretty subjective whether you care more about color accuracy and panel quality on the one hand, or high refresh rate and smooth motion on the other. IPS is always nice, but high refresh rate really only benefits you in fast paced games that you can regularly run at well above 60 fps.

In your budget, the options really boil down to Dell U2412M (1200p IPS), Dell U2312HM (1080p IPS) and Asus VG248QE (1080p TN 144hz).

1080p 27" makes little sense due to the low pixel density

Asus VG248QE all the way, especially with the G sync module! Best monitor on the market when equipped with Gsync. GTX 770 is G sync ready too.

Thanks guys. I guess because I'm not really much of a gamer anymore that I'll go with one of the Dell monitors.. If I stretch the budget with 50$ more may be I'll find something even better but lets see. Btw that g-sync module I don't know if I have it exactly on my video card but if so I guess I should look for the monitor to be with it inside?

other than the great refresh rate, I thought it was the worst piece of crap I have ever used. horrible washed out look and the top of the screen was completely different color shade than the bottom. blacks look bad and dark scenes in movies were just pathetic. I had my old Dell sitting right beside it and kept comparing them side by side. I was glad to go back to my old Dell over a week of fooling with the VG248QE.

I have an ASUS VG278HE (144Hz rapid refresh) and love it. I play lots of games and haven't had any issues with it at all. It's about $370...look it up, I think you'll like it.
370? it was 250 when I tried one.

No. The G-sync is a separate $200 item that you have to void you monitor warranty to install. Not for the casual user, IMO.

If you dont do much gaming I'd go for a dell ips, there was an affordable one with low input lag I think.

120mhz refresh rate isn't noticeable for the large majority of users.

So I'd just look at the power consumption, esthetics, dynamic contrast and response time, you want as fast response time as possible and a decent dynamic contrast so that you can easily see from bigger angles, especially true on a bigger monitor.

I also don't like really big monitor for gaming, I feel like 23' monitor is the biggest where its actually good for the mouse and keyboard gaming, on bigger monitors I feel like my hand and eye coordination with the mouse and monitor are off and I feel like I would have more precision with a controller.

So me personally I can't play on bigger than 23' monitor on PC.

there is no way the "large majority of users" could not tell the difference between 60 and 120 hz. its night and day when just panning the mouse around in a game.
